SiteMap Plus question

I have a landing page on a client’s site that is not linked to any other page within the site and I do not want search engines to index it. So, within RW, I’ve:

  • Checked Enable Robot Meta Tags
  • Unchecked Index this page
  • Unchecked Follow links

In SiteMap Plus, I have this page checked “Hide in Sitemap” (screenshot below)

I’m now getting an error in Google Search Console "Submitted URL marked 'noindex

Is there an easy way to fix this? I guess I could republish the site with the page in Draft mode (since it is already published and it is not linked to any other page within the site). Is there another solution I’m overlooking?

There is an option in SiteMap plus to hide any page in Sitemap (ie: don’t include in the sitemap) - Click “Site Organization” tab/button at top. Then check the page in “Hide in SiteMap” column. You may have to adjust col widths to see “Hide in SiteMap”.

Note that I use SiteMap Plus to create Alphabetical Lists of pages so I know the above works well with that option. I assume it will exclude the page from a sitemap also. You can always output the page locally and view the sitemap file with a code editor to see if it’s there or not. Optionally, if you don’t change the site much you could manually just delete the single page entry in the sitemap file and upload to server but likely you don’t want to get into manually editing your sitemap. Hoping the “Hide” option works for you.

Thanks, @1611mac - that’s what the image above shows. Not sure why, but it doesn’t seem to be working. For now, I just republished the site with DRAFT checked on the page.

Wow… here’s what I’m seeing in my version…

It’s not 100% clear to me what’s not working. Is it the “Hide in SiteMap” feature – you’ve unchecked it, but it’s still appearing in the SiteMap?

Is that the issue?

Is it possible to get a copy of the project file so I can have a look myself? I was just about to do an beta update of SiteMap, so if there are any little niggles that need resolving, now is the perfect time to fix it.

I think it still shows up in the XML sitemap even if you check the ”hide in sitemap” box on the site organization tab.

Not in the office right now but I don’t think that you need to do anything special, just check the box and publish.

Thanks, @Isaiah Before sending to you, I published the site several times this morning, and it’s working exactly as it is supposed to. I don’t know if the issue I saw was an anomaly, or if perhaps at some point in the past I inadvertently unchecked Hide in Sitemap. It was certainly showing in the sitemap.xml a few days ago, and at that time, “Hide in Sitemap” was checked. At any rate, all seems to be good- and I can clear the error in my Google Search Console dashboard. Cheers to you - I hope you and yours have a Happy Thanksgiving.

Hello- I apologize. I’m coming off a case of Covid and brain still is not working well. As I’m sure you know the pic I posted is for the html page generation, NOT the XML file. I use another tool to generate my sitemap because my site is in multiple projects and I don’t generate the XML file.

Sorry and apologies for any confusion I created.

Sorry Dave and teeters and Isaiah
