Sitemap.xml missing/not missing?

  1. Site created and published locally. The file “sitemap.xml” is created.
  2. FTP the site to the server.
  3. Search for file, “coolwebsite.com/sitemap.xml” yields a message that file cannot be found.
  4. This does not seem to be a RW issue, but…wonder if it has happened to anyone else. The file still shows on the server.

By entering the URL into the URL search bar.

Now since you didn’t give an actual link (don’t think coolwebsite.com is the one you are talking about), it’s difficult to say for sure.
You should NOT get a not found. But should get something like:

This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.

Are you typing the full URL? The sample you gave above try adding http or https to the URL.
http://coolwebsite.com/sitemap.xml
or
https://coolwebsite.com/sitemap.xml
