Stacks 3 and Rapidweaver

It’s a shady tactic and a real shame to see you try to discredit over 20+ years worth of work. The real measure of progress is meaningful improvements, stability, and user feedback, not raw version counts. But if you are counting, Elements has had over 80 releases in the past year, with plenty more on the horizon.

We’ve contributed to open-source in the past, but right now our focus is on building and supporting commercial products like Classic and Elements. That work is every bit as valuable because it delivers tools people can rely on to run their websites and businesses. Suggesting otherwise is simply unfair.

Tailwind isn’t a “bad choice” for small or medium websites. Quite the opposite, because it only ships the CSS you actually use, sites stay lean, fast, and free of bloat. That’s exactly what you want on small/medium projects. And in Elements, the complexity is completely abstracted away.

Frameworks may come and go, but web standards remain, and that’s exactly what Elements is built on. Elements outputs clean, standards-based HTML, CSS, and JS. Tailwind is simply the framework we leverage under the hood because it’s efficient and modern.

Our focus is on giving users the best tools for the modern web.

Not meant to be shady, just to prove that I work hard to ship quality software to my users. I woudn’t even be posting at all if shade wasn’t being posted about me. Have a great evening.

When comments are framed in a way that discredits the 20+ years of work that’s gone into building and supporting RapidWeaver, that crosses a line, and that’s why I called it shady.

I don’t want this to spiral into a back-and-forth (and I’d rather not have to close this thread). Let’s keep the focus on helping our RapidWeaver users and moving things forward in a constructive way…

And on that note, if you’d ever like to take Elements for a test drive, there’s now a free trial available so you can kick the tires and see what all the fuss is about

Lies, damned lies, and statistics” Benjamin Disraeli

Joe nice to see you pop up here and I am asking questions based on your post here.

the Foundation 6 stacks got its 153rd update last week

You can look at this in two ways, as ithe information is not broken down - so is there problem with software it needs updating? or I keep improving the software to make it better? Most probably the majority of these updates are “bug fixes” which every software has - including my OTA Car updates. So what are you trying to tell me?

@tpbradley also what are you telling me here?

the commit history on Foundation looks really bleak, not much happening over there :grimacing:

The Foundation stacks are ahead of the framework by quite a lot

What Framework? What measurement are you using? In your video (link below) you state that you are planning on releasing “Next/7” of your Foundation Stack which will be aimed at the “novice” - “non professional” sector, therefore by this F6 is not for your target market?

Whether in your opinion or not both ELEMENTS and STACKS6, TCMS3 and FOUNDATION all have learning curves - otherwise 30% of your email respondents would not have queried this and you would not have spent time on video explaining.

You comment that “Fickle frameworks” will “come and go” but surely this applies to ALL current offerings, even your own as currently you say “ALL stacks will work in STACKS6” yet developers have dropped out, you are helping foundry users to move over to F6, and also state that ‘themes will not migrate” to STACKS6. So like any legacy software things will not work on upgrades.

How many open-source contributions has anyone at Realmac made

What is the purpose of this question? I do not understand? I have a GitHub account to look but never made a contribution, so what value is contributions?

Cartloom is an amazing service. Yes, it uses Tailwind but who cares?

I use Cartloom based on your recommendation many years ago so THANKS, but this comment shows that you DO care IMO. Also its plainly obvious you DO NOT like Tailwind - which is OK - but this is your opinion - which I respect.

before you destroyed the community 3 years ago. So please stop slinging :poop:

Am I to take this that the STACKS community is “destroyed”? Or is it threatened by someone taking on a new product/service? the reason I ask is I have just watched you video yesterday - sorry been “grandadding” a lot because of UK School holidays - Planning Your Next Move: RW, Stacks 6 & Foundationhttps://www.youtube.com/live/keu_WOpUPhM?feature=shared “ You asked for what people were struggling with and you said “you had received the most replies ever” This video is a real eye opener as you say “you do not want to wash your dirty linen in public” but aren’t you doing this here? On video you sate that RM Developers team have decreased over time yet conversely you say you are a small team and Issaiah had “been out of it” but is now back. You also stated in a post a few days ago when asked by a customer in relation to your training videos that you could not spend time on every request as you’re a team of one!

IMO I think there is room for all the current formats, ELEMENTS and STACKS6 in the short term to succeed as we do not know where AI is taking us in the future. IMO I feel your post is showing your upset for the developer community and may feel threatened by change? But what is different about ELEMENTS approach to STACKS when you actively ”promote Chiilidog Hosting - who I have used for many years with great success, on your recommendation - in one breath and then state you are hoping to see up your own “hosting service”?

We can all make up things to suit our own biases, hence my Disraeli statement to start, but at the end of the day I am a user, a novice, not a developer who is getting better, and I just want to be left in peace to make my own decision without washing laundry in public.

This is not a personal slight on you but you posted here and I can only reply here, but IMO you and RM need to take your laundry off a public forum.

I sort of got this thing going again with my comment about the constant suggesting of moving over to Elements here on the RW Classic subset. To me if a piece of software is good, people will use it. If it is complicated or hard to use, it will disappear. Simple. My actual concern is how long will Rapidweaver “really” support RW Classic, when their interest is tied up in Elements? I got an answer of the “foreseeable” future. I am 80, so I guess I am safe in keeping my Rapidweaver with stacks.

I don’t see the need to push people towards Elements when they are asking questions about RW Classic or RW 8, or even earlier. I just hope people continue to support whatever software that works for designing web pages period. I used to have 5 websites for posting sport team data and those in charge decided they would rather not have a website anymore, just posting on Facebook or Instagram, some quick updates. If that is the direction we head towards, I am sad for those who design web pages and those that create software to help in designing web pages. If the move is using AI, well good luck with that approach, but then I thought Amazon was just a fancy mail order company when it first came along…..ha, ha.

Classic will keep ticking along, but all the exciting new stuff is happening in Elements. Better to dip your toes in now than wait until you’re 90 and have to learn it in a rush. Give it a spin you might even enjoy it more than Classic

Edit: I see you picked up Elements back in 2024 (and got it refunded). It’s definitely worth another look, a lot has changed since then! If you’d like, I’m happy to record a quick video showing how to rebuild your site design in Elements

Thanks Dan, but I am content with my present setup. Yes, I tried Elements early on and decided I would stay with what I know. I wish you the best, as I know you and your group have put in a lot of time and effort. Thank you.

Completely understand! But just out of interest… can you share your Classic website URL? I’d like to see if it’s possible to “easily” re-build it in Elements.

We’re hoping to make the migration process smoother for those looking to make the jump.

Dan, Pete’s first obvs but if you’d like to have a look at ODEChair.com - which is based on theme flood - it’s be very much appreciated. (Aside from me not having a solid blog or shop plan yet - I am interested - I first have to ‘leap over my own shadow’ in several regards.) Jol
