Update issue RWFTP

I need to change one detail on a website I built some time ago. When I try to upload, I get the message:

RWFTPConnectionError
remote host closed control connection

I’m on MAC OS10.6.8 & I’m not much of an expert, so I need a simple solution.

In your publishing settings, try reducing the number of concurrent connections (down to 1 if need be) and setting it to extended passive.

If that doesn’t work, I did see an old post with the same error that seemed to indicate that FTPS was required in the publishing settings (not just FTP) after a host upgraded their server…

Thanks, jabostick - not sure I understand much of that though, particularly "reducing the number of concurrent connections (down to 1 if need be) and setting it to extended passive…” Could you explain in more simple terms? Many Thanks …

Those are options in your Publish settings in Rapidweaver (sorry, I’m not at my RW computer to send in a screenshot)

Edit: here’s an image from Google. So under ‘Connections’ and 'Mode". This is RW 7 by the way.

I would check the Publishing method. Most hosts have stopped allowing unsecured FTP. Try SFTP as a publishing method

I have been travelling for weeks and only just got back to this issue. I’ve tried disabling the ‘passive mode’ option as per Realmac’s help page and the upload tests and loads as it did before, albeit much more slowly. I am told that the upload is successful, but the changes never materialise online. I have also tried enabling the SFTP option in ‘settings’ but that results in an error message. What next?
