Strange, everything is working fine here, those text, markdown, and HTML stacks are showing up fine and I can edit the text in them without any problems:
@Pipspaws Thanks for sending the project file over. So I tested and editing of text stacks is working fine.
One thing we didn’t try on the Zoom:
Go to System Preferences->Accessibility->Pointer Control, and adjust the double-click speed. Try moving the slider around and testing if you can double-click to open folders and edit those text areas in RW.
Also per our conversation try testing with a mouse instead of the trackpad to see if you can double-click to edit those text fields.
We’ve got real problems here. I opened Andrew’s RW8 and an old web project. He is now having the exact same problems as me…text will only edit once, then won’t edit at all on any website or on Classic or 8. Could there actually be a virus after all?? I just can’t understand it. I’ll do what you asked above and see how I get on, but with the same problem being on Andrew’s computer I wonder if it’ll make any difference.
You could always download and run something like Malwarebytes to check, it’s free and decent. There’s also ClamXav which has a 30 day free trial.
The project file you sent over is working fine on my end, and seems on Will’s end too, so I’m inclined to say the problem is something on your (and your husband’s) machines.
Sooo, I have had some success on my computer and managed to edit the text (if I press 3 times and hold). I’ve even managed to publish the website !
I will look at Andrew’s configurations later to see if any of mine where transferred when I sent my project to him. I airdrop stuff to him quite a lot so wonder if some of my settings have been replicated on his computer by accident (pie in the sky thinking, probably). I’ve managed to add a new image in to @willwood ProGallery4 so will see if I have more success with that later too.
It’s all looking a lot healthier than it was - I just need to sort Andrew out…
How do you know you are using ProGallery 4? I see the last update for ProGallery 3 was about 2 years ago. I checked Will’s website but it’s unclear if the ProGallery stack is at version 3 or 4. This won’t solve your problem, but I’m interested in whether you made a typo, or if you can provide more info on ProGallery 4.
@willwood has allowed me to work alongside the new release as a ‘guinea pig’. He has wanted feedback from a non-professional for the stack’s user friendliness etc. I think if you asked him directly regarding an update he would most certainly help you, he is a very nice person.
@Pipspaws Thank you for the update. I appreciate it. I have no need to use ProGallery 4 right away so I will be patient and look forward to its release. It makes good sense to me that he’s using “non-professionals” as guinea pigs. Quite a good way for him to develop a new version of the stack.
I am still very unsure what has caused all my problems, especially as the exact same issues are also occurring on our iMac - it’s very hard to believe that the fault is my actual computer. However, @dang has certainly gave me some advice regarding my tracker settings, which have proven successful. It could be a fluke, but I don’t think that’s fair to Dan.
I’m yet to resolve the text editing issues on the iMac, that job is for tomorrow. For now my website has finally been updated and published using my trusty, yet aging MacBook Pro 2017. Hurrah!
Hi, I just ran Malware Bytes and I’m all clear, thank goodness. I’ll open in safe mode tomorrow. Even though I’m having improved success, it all feels a bit of a fragile and I could back to square one in a heart beat…
Hi to anyone reading this and finding they are having the same issues as I.
Dan and I solved the problem and I’ve even been able to solve the issue for someone else who was struggling in the same way.
So what worked? It seems that the text, html and markdown editing feature in RW Classic does not like it if your Touchpad or Mouse has the settings of the Double-click speed to super fast. The app only works (in my experience) if the marker is inbetween the tortoise and the hare.
I can confirm that there were no issues at all with RW Classic, Stacks5 or Will’s ProGallery4 - It was all down to me and me wanting a super reactive computer.
The only ‘speed’ setting I’m aware of is Tracking, not double clicking? On the trackpad you can also set clicking to light, medium of firm. I set mine to max and RW text was unaffected so tempted to think this is a red herring? Unless Ive missed something?
