We make quality software

Okay, sure I’m a little biased, but this article I just came across really hit a cord with me. I think (and hope) a lot of people here in our little corner of the internet feel the same way

The follow-up article to this is also rather good and on-point!

Not only do we make quality software, but we also provide an unparalleled customer experience for our users. Of course I’m also a little biased as your head of customer support.

Also see Artisanal Software; with some great quotes by Rich Siegel (BBEdit), Mark Bernstein (Tinderbox), and Eric Böhnisch-Volkmann (DevonThink).

I do hope we begin to see more quality, indie software, but with user expectations increasingly including cloud-based, mobile, cross-platform (often through a browser or packaged web app), including multi-player, and realtime updates/rendering, the table stakes increase significantly.

37 Signals has always done a great job of maintaining that indie spirit, despite their products being cloud based, and DHH recently made an eye opening post about how their transition from commercial cloud (AWS) to running their own servers will not only save them millions in just a few years, but also increase their capacity to deliver better products.

Think Different™, dance to the beat of your own drum, and always remember to zig when they zag.

Anyway, long live indie, quality, artisanal software! :tada:
