Animate letters of a word?

Is there a stack to animate a word, one letter at a time? I’m trying to emulate a very old Flash script.

Although I used to enjoy these, I now think they’re a bit of a distraction. Also, I found that Header Pro animations mucked around with the centring a bit – great stack though! What I think works better is an animated background (possibly an animated SVG) with static text on top. Just a personal preference.

hmm. nothing quite fits. I may have to create an animated image and import that.
