Our small business provides transportation services and up until now, our customers pay for the service by cheque.
I would like to add credit card payment option to our website and need some directions/suggestions as to how to proceed.

You could use the Checkout stack, which would allow payment by credit card through Stripe https://www.yuzoolthemes.com/store.html. But it might depend on how you sell your services and their pricing options.
