Gallery 3 and lost images

Hi All, still learning… as. disclaimer, I do get image warehousing and am now using it in my build strategies. However, I chose to use the Gallery 3 Image + Thumb Pro drag and drop option to load images for a small site I created. Worked fine until this morning when I open RW t update and find no photos in the image thumbnails - and on checking the actual site, no photos on the web pages. But they were there last time I checked.

Can someone please explain what is likely to have happened here please? This is the second time it has happened to me - if it is not a reliable method of managing images, why is it included as an option in the stack?

If the live website was loading the images and it stopped loading them without you republishing anything from RW, then there is something going on beyond RW and Stacks control. Can you post a link to the website so we can see what’s going on?

Hi Doug,

Sorry to hear that. As these are Stack Plugin images, @isaiah could you please have a look?

Thanks and regards
Jannis

@DLH here is the page link - https://mmnlg.org.au/pastprojects/ - I cannot actually tell if it has broken on the server-side since I last loaded - as I did not go and check every page when I last loaded the site. So this may have been sitting there with no images for a while.

Thanks @instacks and @isaiah for your help.

As you can see I have added the alt text and usually I would expect to see the image where I dropped it. I have not changed anything I can remember except maybe update some stacks and plugins. Running RW 8.7, Gallery 3 - 3.11.1, Stacks 4.1.2 (I think) Cheers DougP

I know this contradicts my first statement but on reflection, I realised I had not been focused on the gallery page at all and republished everything just to make sure what I was working on, was OK.

Not much help but I had a quick look. All your missing thumbnails have links with images where “src” is empty. Eg.

<img alt="rrecent photo of the dam area at Ian and Helen's property" src="">

l also note (as is my wont to quote Billy Connolly) that the one that does work (Evans Tree Bee 2016) link to some hefty sized images - 2.5 mb (me with only a 1mbps connection - you would think living close to a major NSW regional centre I could get better!!!)

Thanks @wirrah, if the html does not have the source then I assume the images were lost before I last published in RW. Makes sense why I can’t see them on the website but still does not explain how they dropped out from within RW and the Gallery - and therefore not compiled when I uploaded the site. Thanks for the heads up on the image size - I have been using ImageOptim to get the size down but have not been consistent. I am in South Gippsland with a satellite NBN - 25mbit down and 5 up - with a 600 ms latency… so not too bad but not stellar…

Not Alone! Mac OS 11.1 and now RW 8.7(downgrading version did nothing).
Opened website in RW the other day after updating and poof virtually all images are gone! Relinked in “resources” - nothing. Hand dragged them in, nothing - will not show in edit mode or visual.
Just purchased Foundations 6. Same behavior.
Obviously I can not & will not update websites in this current state (why I launched the app and update in the first place - so no published site to point you all to). I chimed in on another thread and they are having the same issue.
I’ve been using RW for years - far from expert, but not a novice.
Help out of this much appreciated. RW is virtually useless for me right now…
Thank you!

This is what I wanted to take a look at too.

@dougparke I think the images were broken when you last published. I don’t have much more to suggest. I don’t know if RW lost the link to the images or if there is a bug in the latest Stacks version that is not writing the links correctly.

Do you have RW set to copy Site Resources in the document in the Advanced project settings?

Also, what version of MacOS are you running?

@DLH - Catalina 10.15.7

@DLH - check that - I do have it set. I also only have a small subset of the images in there - mostly from my blog pages. Not sure if that is coincidental or a pointer to the issue…

It won’t help much, just for reference.

@instacks many thanks for this link - very instructive in terms of how things work and what my options/workflow adjustments are/need to be going forward. I did start using warehousing after I bought @joeworkman 's Email stacks and finally learn how to manage Transmit  I will look carefully at the site image options and some of the presentations mentioned. Maybe RW9 will contain a fix… seems a pesky issue for some, but not everyone.

Thanks for the link. I’ve got the old site file via Time Machine. No go, “?” on all the images. Not only can I not see images, I can NOT add images (they don’t show). This is ridiculous frankly.
