Gallery Stack 3 (Instacks) - blurry thumbnails with iCloud integration

Hello, I have bought the Gallery Stack 3 this morning, because I wanted to add a Justified Grid on my portfolio websites, and I liked the idea of integrating Apple iCloud Photos for faster updating my portfolios. However, for some reason I can’t get sharp looking thumbnails this way, even though the images are pretty large and sharp :slightly_frowning_face:. Is there any way for me to fix this?

iCloud holds both a large and a small version of the image. The small one will be used as thumbnail for performance reasons.

Depending on the settings in used gri the image quality of iCloud, and the used device, the images might look “blurred”. A link to your website is appreciated.

Cheers

First of all, thanks for your response, Jannis.

I have uploaded a testpage here: https://indetailfotografie.nl/TEST/.

I am using the justified grid, and made the thumbnails 400px in height with a margin of 6 pixels in between the images. The images that I have put in the iCloud folder are rather high resolution files, I exported them from Lightroom with an image dimension of 3000px on the long edge. Right now, I am judging the sharpness of the thumbnails on the computer which I am using to build the website, which is a new 16" MacBook Pro. So it obviously has a Retina display… And they look very blurry, which is a shame because I really love the functionality of this stack :slightly_frowning_face:

It doe snot matter in which quality you upload. iCloud is compressing and minifying them for you.

Let’s take this one.

Thumbnail is 363 x 256

The large one is 2176 × 1536

I suggest you make the justified grid smaller to get smaller thumbnails and with this a not-so-blurred image appearance. There is nothing I can do about image quality in regards to iCloud.

Yes, I was already kind of afraid this would be the case. There is one thing I don’t understand though, if I check the images straight in a web browser (https://www.icloud.com/sharedalbum/#B12532ODWn2iZk) the images don’t appear to be blurry at all. At least, you can see them loading in and becoming sharper…

Maybe they are first loading the thumbnails and afterwards the full image. That’s not a feature of Gallery Stack, unfortunately.
