How to publish with Fatcow

Can’t publish my RW site on FatCow
(I’m trying to replace a site I created with iWeb ( http://www.rossmoorcameraclub.com/RossmoorCameraClub/HOME_1.html ) with one I have created using RW.

Attempts to publish my RW site using FatCow http://www.fatcow.com/knowledgebase/beta/article.bml?ArticleID=1724 fail. It appears to go through of the process of downloading all 95 files and they appears to be on Fatcow but it does not update the site… Even though I get a RW message “Publishing Complete The changes to you web site have been published. I have tried this several times.”

I have talked with FatCow customer service and after about 50 minutes of changing publishing setting with no results they said I would have to contact Rapid Weaver.

FatCow does has a help page http://www.fatcow.com/knowledgebase/beta/article.bml?ArticleID=1724 saying Quote: Offline website builders usually require you to enter your FTP setting once. Here are a few offline website builders you might consider. Use these along with our generic settings to publish your site End Quote. Followed by links to sever hosts, clicking on Rapid Weaver returns the message: Safari Can’t Find Server Safari can’t open the page.”help.realmacsoftware.com/hc/en-us/articles/200167091-Publish-your-website. because safari can’t find the server “help realmacsoftware.com.

The setting I have used are:
Publishing Method: FTP

Server: cllmd.fatcow.com
Connections: 6 Lighting fast
Username: LWCLL
Password: {may password}
Path:/rapidweaver
Mode: Extended Passive

I am running:
RapidWeaver 7.1.7
iMac 27 inch with macOS Sierra v 10.12.2

The path would not be /rapidweaver unless you want your home page to be http://www.rossmoorcameraclub.com/rapidweaver instead of just http://www.rossmoorcameraclub.com

looks like FTP mode should also be set to passive…

What are the generic FTP settings?
FTP Server Address: ftp.fatcow.com
Username: Your FatCow hosting account username
Password: Your FatCow hosting account password
Port: 21 (or 2222 if you change the connection type to SFTP)
Passive FTP: Enabled

also try setting the connections down to 1 or 2, if that works you can bump it up one next time until you see what your host can handle.

Do you have an ftp program or Cpanel file manager access?
Can you see if the files are being published to a different folder?

I would also suggest NOT naming your file HOME_1.html, in fact don’t name it at all, just name the folder and the server will automatically serve index.html - no need for users to type the file name.

EDIT: I also noticed that when I type: http://www.rossmoorcameraclub.com it sends me to http://www.rossmoorcameraclub.com/RossmoorCameraClub/HOME_1.html. Makes me wonder if there is a redirect set up that may be coming into play.

Here are the directions from fatcow knowledge base.

What are the generic FTP settings?

FTP Server Address: ftp.fatcow.com
Username: Your FatCow hosting account username
Password: Your FatCow hosting account password
Port: 21 (or 2222 if you change the connection type to SFTP)
Passive FTP: Enabled

So I don’t see an option to set passive mode in the publishing settings. So when you setup the publishing settings these should be what you have in the text fields that request the information. I HIGHLY recommend you select the option to use SFTP (Secure FTP) and use port 2222 as in the directions above.

Scott thanks your very quick reply.

To answer your questions:

  1. Q. What are the generic FTP setting:
    A. FTP, FTPS (I assumed this is for slow) SFTP, and Local Folder.
I assumed that FTPS was slow and changed that only setting and tried to publish. I got the message Could’t sign into you FTP server. RW then locked up and can quit RW. I force quit and tried with SFTP and lowered connection speed of 1 an got the same error and lock up. Again force quit.

  2. You also said I should make the “Port” 21 or 2222 if I change the connection type to SFTP. I don’t know where to make that change.

  3. Q. You also asked if I have ftp or Cpanel file manager access.
    A. I don’t know what that is or how to find out should I check with Fatcow?

  4. Q. Can you see if files are being published to a different folder?
    A. If I remember correctly fat cow said the saw something was being uploaded but not published. I know that isn’t helpful. I’m 74 and don’t remember as well as i used to

  5. I tried publishing with the with pub mode FTP and speed of 1. The status showed only downloading 3 files not the 90+ then showed site updated. BUT still show the old iWeb site

Hope this additional info helps
Thanks
Ron

You see where you have the screenshot that almost is covered by where it says Local Folder and the other choices? You have the wrong information in there. It should say only this: ftp.fatcow.com

It says it can’t login to your FTP server because you are trying to use cllmd.fatcow.com

The path should say /rossmoorcameraclub.com/RossmoorCameraClub/

Hi Ron, I will try to answer your questions.

The type here is from Fatcows help section

What are the generic FTP settings?
FTP Server Address: ftp.fatcow.com
Username: Your FatCow hosting account username
Password: Your FatCow hosting account password
Port: 21 (or 2222 if you change the connection type to SFTP)
Passive FTP: Enabled

So, try to set RW’s publishing settings (where applicable) to match these
I would first set connections down to 1 (if it works at 1 you can bump it up later and try)
set the protocol to FTP to start (you may have to try them one at a time but start simple)
set the server to: ftp.fatcow.com (as stated in there help) You may also be able to set it to www.rossmoorcameraclub.com this should be confirmed with your host
set the username to your username same with password
set the path to: /public_html/rossmoorcameraclub.com NOTE it would be worth a call to see what the docRoot is (most but not all are public_html).
you cant change the port in RW (as far as I am aware), that’s for ftp apps.

It’s very hard to give you an exact answer as all hosts are different.

Q. You also asked if I have ftp or Cpanel file manager access.
A. I don’t know what that is or how to find out should I check with Fatcow?

an FTP app like Yummy ftp or transmit would be on your computer, if you don’t know you probably dont have one. Cpanel / file manager access is from your host, Yes ask them. this will allow you to log in and see the file structure of your site and also see if files are uploading to where you think they are.

Q. Can you see if files are being published to a different folder?
A. If I remember correctly fat cow said the saw something was being uploaded but not published. I know that isn’t helpful. I’m 74 and don’t remember as well as i used to

See above, I was just trying to see if you could tell files were actually being uploaded (uploaded and published are the same thing)

I tried publishing with the with pub mode FTP and speed of 1. The status showed only downloading 3 files not the 90+ then showed site updated. BUT still show the old iWeb site

This is somewhat encouraging, if 3 files did indeed get uploaded then you are at least part way there. Did you try to republish all files from the file menu in RW?

Maybe the best thing to do since you don’t have a clear understanding is to get your project on the screen, get Fatcow support on the phone and go through the RW settings with them on the phone, then hit republish all files (while you still have them on the phone) and just work through it. See if they can tell you (or give you access to see) if files are actually being uploaded and What folder they are going to.
