Is subscription worthwhile?

Hi

I just got a notice of a subscription renewal. Truth is that I haven’t done any RW tasks in nearly a year as my “real work” and family has taken precedence, and the web development stuff was just for a rarely updated personal site. The only time I open the application these days is to check for software updates … and I haven’t seen any of those for ages.

  • Given that my usage is periodic only and I don’t see a lot of value - is the renewal worth it?
  • Can I simply skip a year then purchase a new subscription at the same price once there’s a decent upgrade? In the past I’d do pretty much the same thing when there was a major new RW release (going 5 → 6 → 7 → 8 → 9 → Classic)

It looks like the new subscription prices are pretty much the full re-purchase cost anyway. Although I’d like to support the RW developers building new stuff, I haven’t seen much evidence that’s occurring. Thoughts?

That being said, once Apple releases the next major MacOS update, it will no doubt break a bunch of stuff … and that’s when I’ll need to re-subscribe.

Cheers

UPDATE: Checking my billing history, it looks like the annual subscription has more than doubled … going from AUD 55 last year to AUD 137. I knew UK’s economy was in the toilet but 150% inflation seems extreme. Any reason why there was such a huge jump? Has Real Mac Software been acquired by Adobe? It make renewal a tougher call as much as I do like the RMS folks and would like to see them succeed.

Sounds like you are in the same boat as me. If what you have got works for you then leave it at that. RW will still work if you don’t renew your subscription.

As for Apple and MacOS, you don’t need to update that either. Everything works for me right now, I have no incentive to update anything because one thing always leads to another and then another and then another.

Hey Andrew,

Great questions. The subscription renews at full price. The price you purchased it at was probably an introductory offer.

You can stop your subscription and continue to use the current version of RapidWeaver Classic that you have now. If you need a refund on anything just email support@realmacsoftware.com and we’ll sort you out!

You can then restart your subscription if we release a version you’d like to upgrade too.

Hope that helps.

Thanks @jbyfield and @dan
Great - that seems to work for very occasional RW users such as myself. At that intro offer price I probably would have let things slide and just pay as a way to help ensure ongoing development and patching … but it’s nice to know that I can resubscribe without penalty at any point where I need newly released features whenever they become available.

Much appreciated for the advice.
