Hi I was using foundry framework in rw/stacks but recently I have found out interesting also blocs (https://blocsapp.com) and boostrap studio (https://bootstrapstudio.io)
You seem to be a Bootstrap fan as Foundry and Blocs are both Bootstrap-based, as, of course, is Bootstrap Studio. I’m not sure what your post has to do with WYSIWYG editors for Rapidweaver, though.![]()
PS: I had a quick look at Bootstrap Studio and it looks rather lacking. The pages it creates contain no PHP. If you want to use any, you have to edit the pages after they’ve been created.
@Rovertek, my Rapidweaver website is now 2.5 years old. How is that “giving up at the start”? I asked my question back in January - no-one, at this stage, has provided any alternative to the built-in editor, which is my primary pain point right now.
If you are aware of templates that cover what I’m trying to do, I’d be delighted to have your opinion on them. Mountain isn’t bad, but it’s just a skin for the basic pages. I really, really want a template for recipes, and I know they don’t currently exist, as I’m talking to someone who asked the same question and is now developing their own.
I’ll be even more delighted if those templates have a truly workable editor - the original question of my post. Are you aware of any alternative editors?
Am I looking for “excuses” to pay someone else to do something that’s causing me issues, because web development is not my core business? Maybe. And if I am? Why is that presented as something bad?
I know. And being such a control freak is why I’m trying to do this all myself. But … I’m trying to run two businesses. I don’t have time to fight with my website all the time. I just want to run continuous improvement on it, and use it to make regular updates.
But I just don’t think it should be quite as difficult as it is.
And I truly don’t comprehend that horrible little editor, I really don’t. It’s honestly the thing keeping me from adding a necessary blog to my website; the thought that I have to pour my thoughts into THAT. YUK.
@Fuellemann … yeah. You could be right :(. I did look at it before deciding on a locally-developed developer system, due to bodgy bandwidth here in rural Australia. And I’m enjoying the RW development process. But that editor is KILLING me.
@bentshed There is no alternative Editor window for RW. That’s the simple answer. So either you adapt to it, or you use another tool.
… or you take a third path. @OmarKN mentioned using Markdown. That’s a fantastic alternative. Before you object … just wait a minute. My recommendation for markdown is based on the assumption (perhaps wrong) that you have a lot of text on pages. If you only have a little text, and you are complaining about the Editor, then just get over it. ![]()
… on the other hand if you DO have a lot of text on most pages then using markdown really helps. There are tons of markdown apps available. Some free, some paid. I do all my web writing (except really short stuff) in my favorite markdown app. Save it there. Then copy/paste into RW. Works a treat for longer stuff. BTW, I do the same with WordPress (despite it have alternative editor windows I find writing on a “real” editor much more productive).
It takes about an hour to learn markdown. We can provide resources. A free Markdown editor that you might like is Typora. But there are many others.
For Markdown you might want to check out this:
…it has the look and feel I think you (@bentshed) would prefer…?
I have several Markdown editors but MacDown is new to me and is very good.![]()
There are loads of Markdown editors. I use IA Writer a lot, but also have ByWord and Bear. Both good.
