Is there a way to make the added images run completely from one side of the screen to the other rather than appearing as (mere) elements on the page?
Compare singularwriterapp.com to marslegalcode.org.
The latter site is made Stacks and uses the Image Carousel stack over the Multithemes Shape theme.
Are there any themes which follow this design practice?

You need a theme that supports full width aka edge to edge content (have 0 padding setting).
