It seems that Apple have released the public beta of macOS Sequoia… I thought it might be fun to see what version of macOS you guys are running and see if anyone is brave enough to upgrade to the public beta!
What version of macOS are you running?
macOS 15 Sequoia (Public beta)
macOS 14 Sonoma
macOS 13 Ventura
macOS 12 Monterey
macOS 11 Big Sur or older…
0voters
If you fancy upgrading to the public beta you can do so by signing up for the Apple beta program, after that you’ll be able to select the Sequoia Public Beta from the System Settings!
I took the plunge and after backing up my Mac M2 on time machine I installed Mac OS 15: it works very well. no problem whatsoever, i used Rapidweaver, Photoshop, Microsoft Word and Excel and a few other apps, it just works perfectly; I know it’s a bit risky, but after all it has been through the developer beta process, and probably has not too many bugs left
When Sonoma came out people in the forums were saying that it wasn’t performing as well on Intel Macs? When I heard that I decided that it made the most sense for me to stay on Ventura. Sonoma and Sequoia don’t seem to do much of what I need.
I’ve been happy enough that with developer beta since it first came out that I’ve even moved my main devices (with backup resources and contingencies, of course). It has been very solid. In fact, I’ve had fewer issues with the developer beta this time than I had with the pubic betas in the previous two releases.
Biggest disappointment has been the lack of any real Apple Intelligence.
There’s absolutely no reason to move off Ventura if it’s working for you, but as it will soon be 2 OS versions behind once Sequoia is released you may find that some apps/vendors may stop supporting Ventura in future updates/releases.
That said, if Ventura still meets your needs, there’s not really any benefit to upgrading (unless you want some of the newer features).
That is good to hear. Right now all the minimum requirements have just changed to Ventura such as Sketch version 101 just this week. Sketch should support Ventura over the next year.
There are some products that are getting goofy like Capture One Pro where if you buy a perpetual license now it doesn’t come with bug fixes (despite updates costing $150-$200.) So an update to Sonoma broke some features in the latest version and if you were on Sonoma you couldn’t get the fixes even if you were on the latest major update (as I was.)
If RealMac is looking for how to market elements I would recommend they look at what Phase One is doing and then do the exact opposite of that.
Yeah, there’s been a definite negative shift lately in the perception of many of the ‘license/subscription norms’ from the past few years as many companies have doubled-down on pushing user hostile terms and conditions, focusing primarily on shareholder profits and market valuations, rather than their customers.
