Sitelok Vs Members

I see Sitelok has one review and guy says it’s limited.
Also I see the stack hasn’t been updated since 2017.

Members has no reviews but it was released more recently.

What i’m looking for is a members portal and have perhaps content only visible once you login, other content visible to all on same page. Which would you recommend Sitelok or Members?

@pacman7293 You may not be reading closely enough. To use the Sitelok stacks you need to purchase Sitelok. Sitelok itself is a fantastic product.

… as for the Sitelok stacks (which you don’t need to use Sitelok) perhaps the functionality is a bit limited. I would say for most people these stacks are not needed. However, there are exceptions. I create course websites and when I’m done with a new website I then populate the pages with the basic Sitelok stack. This makes it easier and faster for to know the correct “snippet” for Sitelok is on page. (The code differs a tiny bit depending on where a page is located in the hierarchy of a website.) I would get the Sitelok stacks if you find handing code scarier than a root canal. Or if you need to install it on several pages, across several websites. The savings in time (over several websites) has made it worth the purchase for me.

As for Members … it is created by Yazool who has had a checkered history with stacks. (Just search this forum.) That’s something to consider. Very recently Yazool has hired a new person who says they are working on getting all their products in order. I have no idea if Members is a good working stack or not. Or if it will be updated soon or not.

The problem Members faces is competing with Sitelok … which honestly is a perfect product. See more here: https://www.vibralogix.com/sitelokpw/

OK well if it’s perfect it doesn’t need an update I suppose.

Does it show and hide content based on login?

@pacman7293 Again, I don’t think you’re understanding. I’m saying the Sitelok product is great (i.e. almost perfect). I’m not writing in this regards about the stack. Sitelok itself costs $40, the stack (if you use it) will put you back another $40. Sitelok is updated all the time: about every 4 to 6 months. It was last updated about 2 months ago. It’s true the stack product has not been updated for awhile: but that’s another matter.

Yes, you can show and hide pages based on login. If you mean specific content on a page (some folks see content A on the page, others see content B on the same page) then I believe the answer is no.

Sitelok also offers a number of plugins: some free, some paid. @vibralogix can correct me if I’m wrong in my response to you.

All I see is the stack for 40$ where is the “sitelok itself” that is another 40$?

Also any idea why Foundation has a Sitelok stack and the Sitelok stack by itself is also sold separately?

In a previous post (scroll up) I gave the link to the Sitelok product. It is made by Vibralogix

I had no idea Foundation comes with a Sitelok stack. Maybe those stacks are sold seperately. I don’t know. Doesn’t seem likely but could be wrong.

Well that’s interesting timing!

For most of today I’ve been finally getting my head around @willwood Sentry stack, which is a pretty power stack for creating everything from password-protected content on a page to a full-blown members only site.

As a demo I built myself a client area for my main business site, literally just finished it, then popped in here to see what was going on.

Long story short: I’ve been really impressed with it. It can be used as a really simple stack for protecting bits of content with a simple password, or you can dig down into the options and it turns into a really powerful solution. Mate it to Wills Query Display stack and it gets even better. Well worth a look I’d say, depending on what you want to do of course.

Wills Player stack look impressive too. That will make streaming html5 video from your own storage a darn site simpler to sort out too. Marry that with Sitelok and you may have the paywall you are looking for. Not sure Sentry can react to a PayPal payment to unlock webpages.

I’m currently building quite a big site with Sitelok. It’s very powerful, and would allow you to build a simple or complex members site. Maybe in the future you’d expand your site. Sitelok would allow you to do that.

The Sitelok product is sold by Vibralogix. It’s his product. Joe sells some Sitelok stacks that make it easier to mange the Sitelok implementation. You don’t need the Sitelok stacks, but they make life much easier. So instead of placing PHP code snippets on your pages, you use the stacks. The stacks also allow you to decide which membership groups have access. You can also show content to logged in members and different content to non-members, such as a registration form.

I haven’t used the other solutions mentioned in this thread so I don’t know how effective they are. But as @Mathew commented, Yuzool has a checkered history. There are several threads on here about that if you want to check them out.

Just for reference, I have Yuzool Members stack, which also seems to come with MembersPay. I haven’t tested it, or ever used it from memory, but it is rather old, having not been updated in quite a few years. The docs refer to RW5/6.

This would lead me to think it no longer works as expected, and for sure, unless the payment stack has been updated to SCA, that won’t work with Stripe.

I would suggest checking these things out with Yuzool before purchasing. As mentioned above, Yuzool used to be a great dev to deal with, but has since fallen off the scene a few times, reappearing sporadically, then disappearing again. I’ve no idea what the present state of play with them is or if any of their stacks have been updated of late. Sadly, although I used to use a lot of their stacks in the end I had to drop them and find replacements due to lack of support.

@YuzoolSupport Perhaps Sydney can shed some light on that?

Vibralogic’s SiteLok is brilliant. As @Mathew says, you don’t need Joe Workman’s stacks to use it. I’ve been using it for years. It allows you to keep numerous different groups – e.g. admin, committee, etc., with different levels of access. Pages can only be available to particular groups or display different content according to the group. The member database allows for bulk emailings and can automatically email members their logon details. Members can reset their password if they forget it. Go to the website and see all about it: https://www.vibralogix.com/sitelokpw/

I released v1.5.0 of the Sitelok stacks in September. I assume that you are looking at release notes on the RapidWeaver community. I ship so many updates to my stacks that I don’t have the time to update the release notes there. It’s a very manual and tedious process.

You can always find the most up to date release notes on the product pages.

@pacman7293 Yes, like @joeworkman I also don’t remember when I’ve last updated someething unless its been in the past 2 or 3 days. But I have version 1.5.

Again, if you don’t want to deal with code, these stacks have some nice options beyond the basic login stacks. UserFiles can be very helpful. I use WhoIs a lot: just to see which students are currently online. So all of the stacks included by Joe are worth taking a look at: they may not all be useful for you right away, but they are great to have there as options for future work/edits.

We are active and have been so for the past 5 months. We do realize there is documentation that needs to be updated. The Member stack is current and works with the latest releases of rapidweaver and stacks. If you have any issues, please let us email us at support@yuzoolthemes.com. All emails to us have been responded to within 24 hours and usually in a few hours time. In the past few months, we have released new versions of checkout and booking. We are looking at upgrading a number of other stacks. Once we update those, we will update the documentation as well if needed. Furthermore, we have been working to release a new themes using one of the newer frameworks and that has consumed a lot of our time. Kind regards,

Yuzool Support

Erwin, thank you.

@YuzoolSupport can I ask… Are you the new owner of Yuzool, or employed by Michael?

Sorry to chime in, but I’m one of the many that have left stranded by Yuzool and his products. At this point, he could turn himself into the second coming and create the most amazing, useful stack in the history of humanity but I wouldn’t touch it with a ten foot pole - most because he has a significant record of being being here one day and vanishing the next. The vanishing tends to last a while. I’ve been burn to many times to wonder his work for anything. I try to avoid drama, not pay money for it. Just my two cents, earned the hard way (multiple times).

I am a co-owner with Michael and dialogue with him regularly.

Dear Robert,

We are doing with what we can do to re-establish trust and credibility. Anyhow, we cannot change what we cannot change: the past. We are still learning and hope we can build on our mistakes to better serve the Rapidweaver community. Kind regards,

Yuzool Support
