I’m using RW8 on an old iMac running Mojave (10.14). I recently ran into an issue wher pe there was a conflict with using Foundation 6 and Stacks 4. So, I bought Stacks 5. When I tried to install Stacks 5, I got an error and it all went down hill from there. RW says Stacks is missing. No, it’s not. I tried manually removing V4 and adding V5. So, now, I can’t do anything related to using Stacks. I’m wondering if I can either trash RW and reinstall RW, or just install over the current app?unless someone has more ideas?
Dave
Ok. So, I deleted the RW app and reinstalled it. I renamed the “Addons” folder and made a new one. I installed Stacks 5 and Foundation 6. I still have the same problem . It still thinks Stacks is missing. I’m assuming there’s something else somewhere that has remnants of RW that I don’t know about. @isaiah (feom YourHead) still hasn’t answered my support request. I sent Realmac a support request and nothing there, either (I know they don’t support V8 anymore, I just asked if it would work to delete and reinstall RW).
I’m quite frustrated, as I have a site to build, and I can’t use RW at all! It’s only been about a week, but when you have stuff to do, it seems like a lot longer.
(not so much) Patiently waiting,
Dave
I think I had a similar issue. I believe I solved it by rolling back my Stacks Plugin to 5.0.0. When I installed 5.3 it did not work. I was using RW 8.something.
Edited to read that someone was able to install 5.1.2 and it was functioning.
Hi @dcandage you sent an email on the 26th and I replied on the 28th. Have included it again below incase it went to spam.
Are you on macOS 10.14? There was a similar thread here about this very issues.
Try downloading and installing Stacks 5.0 from here: Stacks (make sure you go for 5.0, not a newer version).
You can safely download and re-install RapidWeaver 8, available here.
That’s what I finally ended up doing. Joe Workman did some research and found some other posts about that issue and what the solution was . Last night, I got it fixed. Back to “normal”. Now we wait to see what the next “explosion” will be. I need to upgrade my machine to the 21st century (in computer years ).
I did get it. Thanks. I am running 10.14. I did end up downloading Stacks 5 (at first, 5.3). That was worse. Then came the suggestion to try 5.0. That did the trick. I must ask all the wrong questions when I do searches, because I couldn’t find anything about this. Anyway, it’s fixed now. Thanks again.
This issue is down to Stacks and really, really should have been addressed by now
Stacks 5.xx requires macOS 10.15 or higher. This is due to Yourhead using XCode 16, and any app you build with XCode 16 requires macOS 10.15 or higher.
The problem is that the Stacks webpage hasn’t been updated to reflect that (it still says that Stacks requires macOS 10.12 or higher):
This is a shame, and should be fixed, but any request made in that general direction seems to fall on deaf ears.
If your mac supports a newer version of macOS, just upgrade. If it doesn’t officially support it, try something like OpenCore Legacy Patcher* to get it to install anyway.
Cheers,
Erwin
*not for the faint hearted - if you find this daunting, see if you can get someone to do it for you
I don’t want to start anything as I know Isaiah has stated this reason elsewhere but I feel like I should point out that Xcode 16 doesn’t have this limitation. I build RapidWeaver Classic for macOS 10.14 using Xcode 16 without issue.
I’m afraid I have no idea what the actual reason is that he decided not to support 10.14 users. Either way, his site really should be updated.
Just as an FYI, I finally got it fixed. I had to use Stacks 5.1.2. Now it’s back to normal (normal for me, anyway). I’m breathing again.
Good point - I’ve edited my post to reflect this.
