@isaiah I’ve stuck with the latest beta on my MBA and it’s just crash on a regular project. Not my test one that I know can invoke a crash. I was copying and pasting a small grouping of stacks.

Please tell me where to send both crash reports, if you want them.

@Isaiah - this beta fixes an issue I was having with the standard text stack, text in “betterfloat” stack, and other text related stacks. Since last update I had to “double pump” entering in and out of a stack to see changes. ie: In a stack I’d go to edit mode, select all, and paste in new (raw) text. I’d see the new text upon the paste, but when “Done” and leaving the stack I’d see the “old” text displaying in the stack. When I re-entered the stack the new stack was in fact there. Then when leaving the second time I saw the new text.

This was across the board in all stacks using text. It was like the text was changing but the “display” cache was not.

I never reported it, just lived with it every day. Anyway, as said, this beta fixes that issue. Everything now works “as expected.”

This error is related on a stack that you’re using. Part of it is triggering an error. This is probably different than the error-on-drag that some folks are seeing.

I can likely make stacks more resilient to this error if I could get a copy of this page and your RW Environment.

Don’t mention it. I can’t remember who posted that one, but it was an easy fix once I knew to look.

Sometimes in the bulk of testing I fail to notice some detail of real-world interactions has changed and then just get used to things being that way and forget they were ever different.

I just need someone to come along and give me a swift kick and say, “look right here!” LOL.

I tried a little de-bugging but just gave up. Usually (as you know) things like that end up being “weirdness” on the user end. I figured it would eventually go away with new a new release of something. Oh… and… “You are getting sleepy… sleepy… sleepy…”

Isaiah, thanks for all your great work. I am on Big Sur v11.2.1 and just downloaded Stacks update 4.2.0 and have RW v8.7 (20860). My environment hasn’t crashed for some time but I have lost the ability to copy a stack from one project to another. This is a big one got mr and I like to copy and paste from old projects. Also, sometimes the centre panel of RW does not show the full settings a stack in the right hand panel. I have to close RW and reopen it to see the settings again. Similarly the centre panel loses being responsive and once again I need to close and reopen to get everything back. Any help would be appreciated.

try this quick experiment: start with RW closed. then if you make two brand new projects can you copy and paste between them. just drag a text/html, or markdown stack in, then copy it, then paste it into the second documnt as normal. please make sure there are no other projects open and no other projects were closed.

knowing the answer to this question will help me with identify how to move forward in assisting you.

if the problem exists even in new documents with built in stacks then the problem lies within Stacks and/or your RW environment.

conversely, if the problem doesn’t exist in this simple experiment then it’s likely related to something within the projects and we should focus there instead.

can you describe which part of copy and paste is failing?

does the paste make a beep? the beep sound is played when nothing in the current window will accept what’s on the clipboard. that’s a macOS thing.

if there’s no beep sound and no error message then maybe somewhere is accepting the paste, but it’s not being displayed correctly.

Ok, I followed the exact steps steps you mentioned and created Project 1 and Project 2 - one page projects with couple of standard Foundry stacks in each. Then I opened both Project files and tried to drag one of the stacks from say Project 1 to Project 2 and visa-versa. Although I can click on the stack and drag it across to the other project it does stay there or drop in. The only way it works under this experiment is if I use cmd+c and then cmd+v. The latter method is ok with me but the copied stack is placed at the bottom of the page and then I need to re-position it. It was easier just to drag the stack across projects in the past as I could drop it in between stacks and I cut down the steps. Hope this makes sense. Thank you

ok – experiment success. i can see that same problem here on my machine. drag and drop between projects is indeed broken. so that’s definitely a bug.

we did lots of real-world user testing of the drag and drop refinements (and speed improvements) that are in v4.2 – i’m really surprised that no one caught this little regression until now (btw: regression is just fancy developer speak for a bug that accidentally makes something worse when you were trying to make everything better).

i’ll try fix this one up in the next build. until then, while you’re using ⌘C & ⌘V, try selecting a stack before pasting. a pasted stack will always be positioned in the first place it’s allowed directly below the currently selected stack.
this let’s you ⌘V to the exact spot you’d like the a stack to go.

@fg8: But it will be. I’ve logged the bug here ( you can't drop a stack if the drag came from another project (#649) · Issues · YourHead / stacks · GitLab ) in our public bug tracker if you’d like to follow along you can get notifications when it’s fixed and when I release the fix to beta testers.

I suspect this won’t be difficult to fix now that I know about it, so I’ve tentatively scheduled it for v4.2.1 – which I suspect will follow along in a week to ten days.

This morning, I split a project into two sites and had to do a lot of re-arrangement, drag’n’dropping and such, kept two simulation windows open and it looks like my initial problem is fixed. Haven’t had any crashes now for days.

One little feature wish: can you please please please make the text editor font bigger? At least at the same size the stacks view is? Or even better: configurable?

RE: Drop and drag… @Isaiah, I duplicate so many stacks in project I simply got into a habit of Copy/Paste/Re-position. I do this constantly. Frankly I forgot about Drag and Drop and would copy paste just out of habit.

I had not tried dragging stacks between projects but I have been dragging stacks pages between projects and that has been working fine.
