when ever I go to add text and I move it to the top left of the screen, it also goes back to centre with a lot of space on the left hand side of it, but I want to be on the left as far as possible
any ideas

I’m guessing you are using Veerle theme and Styled Text kind of page. I tried this setup myself and the text aligned to the left, as expected.
You need to make sure that the text alignment is set to left, as in the screenshot below:
