Until now, I’ve been an enthusiastic user of Pulse and the Pulse stacks. But now the Pulse developer decided to offer hosting plans with monthly fees and limited bandwidth, where individual users cannot install Pulse on their own servers anymore. (If you still want to do so, you have to pay even more — per month!) Imho, this business model is far too expensive and completely unsuitable for individuals. And, as far as I can see, it’s the end of Pulse RapidWeaver integration. Or will the Pulse stacks still work with a hosted installation?
Your are still able to use your already purchased Pulse 4.x licenses on your own server. No need to worry about that.
If you thinking of installing more installations of Pulse CMS on your own servers (so I guess creating sites for clients), the cloud license model is actually quite attractive.
I know that I can continue to use my 4.x license, but this version is no longer supported. And, as a consequence, you will discontinue the development of Pulse stacks, too, won’t you?
That is just wrong information. 4.7 is latest release. Version 5 is in development.
Why should I discontinue the development of theses tacks? Actually, I have a lot of ideas for further improvements, but all development takes its time.
Sorry if I expressed myself misleadingly. The developer states that version 4.x with the old license model will be discontinued. The new version 5 requires you to pay monthly fees, even if you already purchased a 4.x license, and Pulse cannot be installed on your own server any longer (at least with the cheaper plans). I assumed that this makes it harder or even impossible to integrate Pulse into RW any longer.
You are comparing apples with oranges. If you install on your own server, the integration is as simple as always. I am not able to speak about the hosting plans, that’s for @yuzool.
Thanks @instacks for filling in here…
@freewheelin_franklyn - I think we need to change the copy on the page as that’s completely not correct.
Version 4 works yesterday, today, tomorrow. Always. On your server, on your client’s server, with RapidWeaver or a standalone version.
To install further versions of Pulse 4 (as @instacks says):
If you thinking of installing more installations of Pulse CMS on your own servers (so I guess creating sites for clients), the cloud license model is actually quite attractive.
So for more sites of Pulse 4 you’ll need to join the cloud club.
Clear so far?
Club members will also get Pulse 5 for free and this is the only way to get it. It’s a paid-upgrade (like RapidWeaver).
It’s really really really easy to install but some people just didn’t want to install it or worry about hosting, hence the hosting plans you are referring to. But there are two options (hosted or self-hosted) so I can’t understand the fuss? You can carry on as before with self-hosted versions and using RapidWeaver.
And yes, if you choose the hosted version it will also work with RapidWeaver Stacks.
