Hi:)
I updated an old site from 5.4.0 to Rapidweaver 8 and to delete a few pages (RapidCart etc) Thanks to several of you on this forum I was able to get it done and uploaded except one page… Some of the other pages wouldn’t work either. They would revert to the old page online. So, I had a live, hybrid site between my old and new pages showing up online.
I solved those problems by making a new page or rewriting the page, that worked except for one page. I’ve tried using stacks pages and styled page that comes with RW8. I’ve spent three hours trying every combination except the right one! lol
Anyway, the site is RummyRoots.com and the page is under the “More Info” tab, titled “Reviews.” If you click on “Review”, it takes you back to some of the old files. But if you don’t clicked on “Review” all the other pages work properly throughout the site.
What am I doing wrong and any help would be very much appreciated:)
You should make sure your web hosting space is wiped of the old files before uploading the new site.
It’s likely that the files are not fully replacing the old files. This can be done using an FTP programme or your web hosts own file manager to clear files stored within the public_html folder and then re-publish all files within rapidweaver
I agree with @ablx here. If you have a full backup of your website, then you may want to take a look at the files online and remove those that are old. But only if you are sure they are not required.
A point to note is that it look like you have named some of the pages with different .html filenames. What I think you are finding is that the review link is opening up the original file called index.html and I suspect you have called the page something different so the old index.html is not overwritten.
RW will upload files and folders but it does not delete old files and folders unless they have been replaced with newer versions.
It is recommended that you leave the files as index.html and only change the folder names as shown below. The default file that will load is index.html or index.php when a web browser is pointed at a folder. Your link in the nav bar is only pointing to a folder and not to the file hence the reason the old index.html file loads.
One more question… I just changed the page back to index.html as suggested.
If all pages are coming up correctly now, do I need to still take out the old files as suggested? Do they just look like they’re working correctly or is there still something wrong behind the scenes?
