Why is there no viable WordPress blog solution for RW? Help with Armadillo

have you asked Nimblehost the the developer they normally are pretty good at getting back to users

Unfortunately I donā€™t have the time to answer all your questions thoroughly, but here are some quick responses:

  1. I have no idea whatā€™s going on with Disqus on your main page. It seems like you have unintentionally activated it on that page, but thatā€™s not normal. One activates commenting for each post (or not) so Iā€™m not sure what happened in your case.
  2. You can put as much, or as little, summary on a post-by-post basis. Iā€™m guessing you checked the ā€œDisplay Summaryā€ checkbox on each post, but did not enter any summary text. Scroll to top of blog page, see Post Summary button (just to right of Meta Content) and enter your summary there.
  3. I canā€™t help with this. I use the Markdown option, and I donā€™t wrap images. When I use images I use at full width. Hopefully someone else can help here.
  4. Iā€™m not sure what you mean by ā€œincomplete sidebar infoā€. Specifically what are you looking for?
  5. You should be able to change font of post titles. It involves using some CSS. Go to Settings > General Settings > Custom Styles and enter the CSS. Off the top of my head I donā€™t know how youā€™d target the title, but itā€™s doable. Jonathan at Nimblehost can easily help with this.

Most of my work is behind password protected areas, but hereā€™s an example of an Armadillo blog page (largely neglected by me):
http://mathewmitchell.net/blog/

Youā€™ll notice the sidebar area can be styled and customized quite a bit. This is mainly through Custom Styles but also by using Extra Content areas or columns (depending on theme, etc.) for adding content to sidebar.

and hereā€™s one post with several photos:
http://mathewmitchell.net/blog/?post_id=23&title=yellowtec-ixm-recording-mic

Also pretty easy to add a button at top of specific blog posts so you can return to the main blog page as seen on this specific page.

In short, you can definitely customize your Armadillo blogs quite a lot. But at some point it means tweaking with CSS.

Yes Scott, I emailed Nimblest 2 days go with these same questions.

Thanks a million Mathew! I will be looking into your suggestions.

I fixed the summary issue. I had no idea how to use this feature in Armadillo, but I do now.

This is so strange. I sent @nimblehost a second email requesting some help and still no answers.

@firedude2894 Looks like those messages have gotten lost in transit, as nothing is showing up in our system. How did you submit them - via email? A contact form on our site? Through the docs.nimblehost.com portal? Iā€™d like to make sure this is fixed, whatever the problem is.

Iā€™ll look into these questions youā€™ve posted shortly.

HI Brad,

  1. Disqus is showing up on the individual blog posts correctly, but it also shows up at the bottom of the main blog summary page. How can I suppress Disqus on the main blog page?

From what I can see, this Disqus on the homepage is being shown via a code snippet in an HTML stack, and is not related to Armadillo.

  1. I canā€™t seem to figure out how to wrap text around the images in my blog posts.

After you insert an image, you should then have the option to align it to the left or right. Once youā€™ve done so, text will wrap around the image accordingly.

  1. I have added the Armadillo Sidebar and tried the Armadillo Navigation as well.

By navigation, do you mean the Armadillo Menu stack, or the Armadillo Blog Navigation stack?

I have also added the code snippet to the sidebar area in RW.

Which snippet? Iā€™m assuming you mean the sidebar snippet, but would like to make sure. If youā€™re using the Armadillo Sidebar stack on the page, then thereā€™s no need for the snippet, as theyā€™ll just display the same thing.

but incomplete sidebar info.

Could you clarify what you mean by incomplete? Whatā€™s missing exactly?

  1. Can I change the font for the post titles?

As @Mathew mentioned, you can accomplish this with CSS. The font for post titles is controlled by your theme styles, so my first suggestion is to check theme settings to see if the theme developer provides an option for this. If not, try adding this to the Custom Styles field in Armadilloā€™s Settings tag:

.armadilloContent .blog-entry h1.blog-entry-title { font-family: "Name of your font here"; }

Hope this helps. Please do let me know how you have sent in the support ticket, so I can make sure we fix any problems in that regard.

Very interesting topic. Iā€™m new to Rapidweaver and the blog that comes with it is very limited. Iā€™ve been searching for something to improve on it and Armadillo seems to be something Iā€™d be interested in.

Iā€™m just wondering if Rapidweaver 7 will offer an improve blog set-up, and if Armadillo will still work with Rapidweaver 7? Anyone knows?

Hi Denis

If anyone knows about the built in Blog, they canā€™t tell due to the NDA for the RW7 Beta.

Armadillo will work with RW7, in-fact almost all devā€™s products will, I can say that much. Bunch of updates coming out as soon as RW7 Launches I am sure plus new productsā€¦

Well I was hoping someone from Realmac would give us a hint  Or a release date for that matter!

Hi Denis

There is bits and pieces of info being given in the Podcast for the lastā€¦ ohā€¦ 15 or so weeks about RW7. Nothing I can recall specifically regarding RW7 Blogging pages but give them a listen if youā€™re so inclined. The Podcasts are a relaxed atmosphere type but have a rhythm and format that is followed.

A release date is not set yet due to the team wanting to make sure it is as smooth as possible for transitioning to RW7 from 5.4.1 or 6.x as well as limiting the number of bugs as much as possible (I applaud them for that!). Last count on the Podcast I think was about 200 beta testers.

Thanks for the info Brad. I hope they smooth things out soon. I agree itā€™s better to ship a little later if that means a better product/smoother transition for current users.

Thanks for taking the time to bring me up to speed!

How well does something like Armadillo play with themes? I use Majestic theme, will it work well with it?

Also, Iā€™d like to be able to put code snippets in blog post. Is there something that can do things like syntax highlighting in blog post?

Seems fine with newer themes that I have which is a lot. I canā€™t vouch for some of the antique themes I have as I have a lot of themes just for maintaining old sites

@denis Iā€™ve been using Armadillo for many years and I have never had a problem with it working with any theme. In fact, the way it works means, I think, that it is almost impossible for there to be a mismatch between it and a theme.

Thanks for the info!

I am using Foundation as my theme.
Feel free to view Armadillo in action here:

I do have a handful of small issues Iā€™m hoping resolve once @nimblehost responds to my requests, but I donā€™t think this has much to do with the theme Iā€™m using.

Hi Jonathan,
I sent two emails to support@nimblehost.com. One on 4-18-16 and the other on 4-20-16. I just sent another today through the website. Maybe I will get my answer here.

Thanks for the help Jonathan.

Disqus is fixed. You were correct.

Wrapping text. I was looking for something in the Armadillo menu bar that would let me wrap text around a picture. I finally saw the ā€œEDITā€ button in the middle of the picture purely by accident. This has been resolved.

I added the Armadillo Blog Navigation stack and the Armadillo - Blog Navigation Links snippet. My page is showing the navigation info, but it seems incomplete since there is not even a title or any ways to customize this.

I will try the CSS for blog titles.

Thanks again.

Jonathan did mention not getting my requests via email. There may be a disturbance in the force!
