Thanks for that, but where are the short visual overview videos? I can’t see them.
There is an 8min video of Joe explaining why people are not “getting it”, but it really doesn’t show me how F6 works. There is another titled F6 for beginners, but it’s 95mins long!
I’d like to see a few short and sharp overview videos, preferably with visual aids (a la Foundry videos) to show me what F6 is with an overview of how it works.
Even the most complex software has these, does F6?
WOW! I just found an overview video for swatches. It’s 2hrs long. How long is the indepth video tutorial?
Each section on that F6 demo page has its own videos, do you see those?
The only other thing I can suggest to inform you is to go over to the Weavers.space community site and ask all the F6 users there something like ‘Why the heck would I want to use F6?’
There are loads of us chatting about F6 and helping out new users, so that might help you to make a decision. Of course, I’m completely biased towards F6 as I’ve been using it for all my sites since it was released some 18 months ago, so I won’t bore you with how good it is in my opinion
Yes, I see those now, but as I say, I’m looking for a general overview for F6, not for each element.
Really, at the moment it looks like I need to wade through lots of individual videos, some long some short, to get even the slightest flavour of what F6 is. It’s been billed as changing everything and working differently from everything else, so I want to get a flavour of it before committing, as it’s possibly not for me.
Asking other users is arbitrary and not really what I’m looking for. But thanks for the help anyway, I’ll maybe leave for now.
OK, you didn’t say if you have Foundation 1 or any other framework so you might not be familiar with how these work rather than using a pre-baked theme.
It might not be for you as there is a learning curve and it does depend just what sort of websites you want to develop.
OK, so no I didn’t see that, but I can now at least see that it isn’t at all different from previous Foundation versions, which is good to know. Thanks.
Only other comment I’d make and this is just personal opinion, but Joe needs to make more videos like this and less like his usual. That is, less Joe in the videos and more Foundation. When the camera is pointing at Joe I find he tends to waffle which makes getting the interesting stuff difficult. Just a personal view. No offence meant.
Good video. Swatches are kind of what I thought they were, but until now wasn’t quite sure. For what it’s worth, in my opinion these are the sorts of vides you need to giving would-be purchasers easy access to. Already, after just those two videos, I now have a much better feel for what F6 is, and know that is would fit well with how I work. Whereas before I was really clueless.
I agree. All of those videos are organized into each section on the F6 demo site. That particular video is the 2nd video on the Site Styles demo page. Site Styles | Foundation 6 Stacks for RapidWeaver
Perhaps someone who feels it valuable to have a link to the videos referenced during a tutorial could voluntarily make note of the video referenced and post a link to it as a comment of the tutorial video.
We’re a Rapidweaver Tribe and we’ll all grow stronger together.
Thank you for taking your time, energy, and effort to create this site. I’m hoping it will be helpful.
1-Is your arrangement of videos in an order of importance or priority so as to best understand and/or learn Foundation 6?
2-Joe’s videos can get very lengthy; many are over an hour long, and quite a few are even two hours in length. When he gets on a roll, he will mention other, previous videos that can help with understanding whatever he’s mentioning in the current video. I’ve suggested, encouraged, and requested that he add links to the mentioned previous videos in the video description component of the video he’s creating because having to go back through 2 hours of video after already watching 2 hour videos is overwhelming.
And irritating, as it can turn a 2-hour video into a 3 or 4 hour very tedious experience.
Is there anyway you can add these mentioned links into the video descriptions you’ve made and/or help @joeworkman add these links in? I do know this can be done as evidenced by the screenshot below.
The videos are listed according to the date they were added to YouTube. You can filter them by various criteria by clicking the filter button at the top.
Since this is a small operation type of project, not a lot of time can be dedicated to it, which is why it’s also community driven, so I (we) have to rely on the community at large to do it the “right” way.
As far as linking to things Joe has mentioned, that’s the exact reason I put the search in and organized the blog posts the way I did. Each of the transcripts is the Summary from the blog post so all of the text can be searched.
I know it’s not perfect, but it’s a start. I have added the ability to add tags and categories to the posts so if Joe mentions something like Total CMS or Height Swatch, those tags can be added to the posts.
A really nice thing I have found is, I can search for something and all the videos that have mentioned that word will show up and because everything is time stamped, I can quickly read or jump to the point in the video to see if it’s the portion I needed.
