I asked this question years ago hopefully the answer has changed. Is the latest RW able to open files from 10 years ago. Theres an old site I let fall away and delete from online but I still have the folders I was working from on my mac. I would love to access them and at least get some of that text info ( it was a movie review site) so I’m hoping the latest RW can open those folders. I dont care if its a mess I’d just like to see what can be salvaged. I don’t mind buying the program to do it. Thanks
You are saying “…I still have the folders I was working on…” and “…hoping the latest RW can open those folders”. Can it be that you do actually mean “project files” instead of “folders”? RW can’t do anything with folders, but a lot with project files…
I have .rwsw folders full of things like data folders, pages folder and in each folder is contents.plist etc.
I don’t see a specific project file. Maybe that would have been saved somewhere else? Whats the extension I should be looking for?
Ah, now things get clearer. These folders you are seeing should actually be RW project-files (which internally consist of exactly the folder(s) you are seeing). But they should appear as one file and not as a set of folders. This is an issue which occurs from time to time with some users. I guess there’s some solution to this, but here I must pass over to @dang and/or @dan …
Wow, sounds like those projects are from RapidWeaver 5 way back in ~2010, welcome back! Hopefully we can get them back up and running…
I think to get those projects updated and working you’ll need to open and save them in RapidWeaver 6. Once you have them saved as .rw6 files you should be able to open them up in the latest version of RapidWeaver Classic
Older versions of RapidWeaver can be found here, but here’s a direct download link for RW6. More details on how to upgrade project files can be found here in the manual.
And finally, if you need a license number for an older version, you can find that information here.
Hope that helps!
This is fantastic thanks!
I’ll reach out if I have any issues.
Okay the first problem I ran into is it said Stacks was missing and it couldn’t load the whole file. Can I still save it and open it in the new Classic? All the info I’m looking for is buried in stacks. Thanks
Mike
You’re saying “All the info I’m looking for is buried in stacks”. So, why not download (or buy) and install the Stacks plugin to get ahead…?
Good news! Just like RapidWeaver, you can download and install the Stacks plugin for free, you don’t need a registered copy to see the contents of your saved file.
Here’s the download link for the stacks plugin (v5).
Hope that helps.
Awesome Dan thank you so much for helping me on this. I Added stacks. As you would expect since these folders are so old (3 macs ago) there’s missing information like the theme. So it wants to automatically apply a default theme and in doing so locks up the program with the spinning candy wheel and I have to force quit. Once I force quit there is an image of the “homepage” as apart of my desktop that will not go away unless I restart my computer. So it never actually opens the file it just spins. We keep getting closer…
Oh and for the record I have a year and a half old MacBook Pro M1 32 gig with Ventura 13.6.7
Can you send me the project to take a look at? I can probably get it up and running for you… send it to: dan at Realmac Software dot com
Done!
Just replied with a working Classic Project
