Dev Diary Ep35 - Elements Cloud

Hello!

Today is another big day… We’re launching a new service called Elements Cloud. This new service is the foundation we’ll be building many new features upon in the coming years. But first, let’s talk about what Elements Cloud can do today.

What can Elements Cloud do today?

Backup and share your Element projects with a few clicks. Every Elements Cloud Account includes 1GB of Cloud Storage for Free!

Sign-up is in app and literally takes a few seconds. You’re then ready to go and can start backing up and sharing projects.

Watch today’s video to learn more about Elements Cloud and how this new feature works.

Elements Cloud Link Magic :magic_wand:

We have nifty url scheme integration between Elements and Elements Cloud. You can share a link to your file on Elements Cloud and anyone with Elements for macOS can click the link and it will automatically download and open in Elements — It works just like magic :mage: and makes sharing projects a breeze!

Got Today’s Beta (22885)? If so… click here to open the project below directly in Elements :magic_wand: Pretty cool, right?

CleanShot 2024-09-10 at 8 .29.43@2x

Use Elements Cloud When:

  • You’d like to backup your project at various stages of development
  • You need to quickly get your project from one Mac to another
  • You want a friend or colleague to take a look at your project
  • You need to send your project to support for troubleshooting
  • You want to share a project here on the forum
  • You’re a developer and want to share a projects with a client or customer

Hopefully you get the idea and can see how useful this feature will be going forward.

Just to be clear, Elements Cloud is not a collaborative service, it does not allow multiple people to work on the same project at the same time. Instead, think of it as the fastest way to backup and share projects. It’s also the start of much bigger things to come…

This seemingly humble feature is the foundation that will allow us to build many, many great cloud based features in the future :wink:

Get The Beta

You can sign-up here to be notified when the Elements beta is publicly available. Please note, we’re adding new users slowly to the private beta to enable us to manage all the feedback. If you’re already on the waiting list, just hang-tight, we will get to you soon!

Feedback

Keep the feedback coming, and if you have any thoughts about the features demoed today please post them below.

See you next week :wave:

Thanks,
Dan & Team Realmac.

Here’s a fun Custom Components project I was playing around with. Posting here just so you can click the link, and see how seamless this feature works :smiling_face:

Now I understand your comment on one of my posts last week:

" Hmmm, it’d be good if we had an easier way to share projects :thinking:

Check your junk folder, and then try again. The email will come from noreply@elementsapp.cloud

Let me know how you get on.

I get the email, there is no link in the email

there is nothing to click on

Hi @upssjw, which email client are you using? It looks like the link is being stripped out.

@tpbradley

gmail

I’ve managed to reproduce that here, I’ll look into it. Is there another account you could use in the meantime?

Edit: It seems that it’s an issue with the gmail web client. It should work if you set up your gmail account in Apple’s Mail app.

@tpbradley

I have the same issue in apple email, I have my gmail setup already

@tpbradley

played with apple mail the link work thanks

Been on the wait for the beta for far too long.

It looks interesting, but time to get on with other work.

Hmmmm…

  • ok so instead of having to manually change a project name before saving - could there be an auto-generated version num for each one?, I guess shown in list by most recent date

  • maybe an optional way to auto-delete files after a set time period or number of backups already on server

As long as you can overwrite the existing file or delete files you no longer need.

Very, very cool. I opened it just to correct the typo in the banner :slight_smile:
