Privacy statement not appearing on website

Hi,
I’ve just downloaded RW 8.9.1 and thought I’d add a privacy message and dismiss button. It seemed to upload to the server correctly but is not visible on the website. Nor is a small addition I made to the text. Will this be picked up by bots in due course or might something be amiss?

A little more info will be helpful for us to figure out your issue.

Can you post a link to your site?

Are you using the RW privacy message option? Or something else?

What kind of page type (Stacks, Styled Text, etc.)?

Are you using Stacks?

It may just be a cache issue. Try clearing your browser cache or use a private window or another browser to view your page.

Hi David,

The website is https://www.americascupmasters.com

I am using the RW privacy message on standard RW page, no stacks.

I’ll try the cache.

Thanks for the interest and reply.

Thanks for the info. It does not seem to be a cache problem as I’m not seeing the privacy message either, and the code for the privacy message doesn’t appear on the page as far as I can tell.

You could try republishing all files from the RW menu in case some files were missed in the last publish.

I take it that you’re not getting any error messages when you publish?

I’ll try to re-publish in a minute. No error messages. I did tick all the boxes on the privacy message page however. Was that a mistake?

Did you click on the "dismiss"button when viewing the published site? It’s not a mistake, but yeah, then the message will then not show up again if you’ve set it in RW to “only show once” or however they phrase it. However if you visit the page in a different browser or I think even if you use a private window you should see the message and button.

As I mentioned, I’m not seeing the message so it doesn’t seem like the update with the privacy message got published.

I just re-published all the files and couldn’t see the message either. I meant ticking the boxes on the set up page. The message appears on the source pages now. Maybe it has something to do with the FTP set up? GoDaddy just changed me to Linux with C-Panel and that meant some changes although it tests okay from the RW FTP page.

Okay. I just checked the published page source and it does not include the message and button so it’s a publishing error. Now what? The page source is correct in RW.

I’m still not seeing the privacy message and the code for it is still not showing up on the published page.

By that if you mean in Preview mode in RW or in a browser, yes then that would indicate the files are not getting published to the correct place.

You might want to make sure you’re publishing to the correct folder since Godaddy updated your account to CPanel. In the file manager in CPanel you can see which folder the files are getting published to, as well as the the correct upload folder where you’re existing previously published files are residing. Usually it’s the public_html folder, but not sure if that is the case with Godaddy. I would suggest checking their documentation or call support to find out which folder you should be publishing to.

Once you figure out the correct upload folder, you can browse to that folder in the FTP settings n RW and republish all files.

Hi,
Thanks, that’s a great synopsis of what to do. I was speaking to GoDaddy today and they solved the issue by ignoring FTP and simply exporting and unpacking a zip file in public_html. Instant result. Perfect. I will look at the FTP page again and follow your advice and see what happens but at least for the moment everything is good to go.

Just to add a bit more detail. Before you change the server IP address on the FTP page check your DNS in GoDaddy. When they changed my hosting to C Panel they gave me a new IP address so I changed it on the FTP page without checking the DNS. However, when I looked at the DNS page (A name on line 2) the IP address remains the old one. I tried to change it and the change was refused. Without trying it out in practice I suspect that you don’t need to change the server IP address on the FTP page. Indeed, I don’t think you should. Anyway, that’s my take on it.

Hi again,

I had an email from GD security this morning telling me that they had changed the second line A name IP address to the new IP address and that I could now use ftp.example.com as the FTP Server on the RW publishing page. So it would appear an error was made in the setup of C Panel by GD. So if you have problems using FTP publishing in RW be sure to check the DNS in GD!
