If you deactivate it and then try to publish again, does this help?
If you are using the free version, then it is not active scanning. And no need to deactivate.
Ok next. Did you restart your router?
Thanks again Paul! It looks like I figured out what you are talking about here. Publish locally and then upload using the file manager on bluehost.
havenât tried that ⌠will try now
thanks Jan, restarting the router didnât help. But I think Paulâs advice of publishing locally and then uploading to the server will work. I just will abandon trying to publish through Rapidweaver to the server.
I still think this is not a RW issue and something with your hosting account. Maybe there is a file with incorrect permissions that are not allowing RW to overwrite the file.
The fact that you could publish to a temporary folder on your server from RW seems to confirm this.
If you are going to stay with publishing to a local folder and then uploading to your host outside of RW, then get an FTP app. Itâll make uploading much easier. Start with a free app like Filezilla or Cyberduck, and if you like this approach, then you may want to check out the paid apps like Transmit or Forklift.
Timothy, although Iâm using RW7, I had some problems initially connecting to my host, Rediweb. Cracked it through trial & error by tweaking the publishing settings. Couldnât get it to work beyond â3â on the connections. Also changed the mode to âActiveâ. Hope this helps.
Thanks Don, I do intend to switch servers to Chillidog, which I am already using for an organization website, but I just cannot do it yet for my personal website.
Clarification: I did not publish to a temporary folder on the server, but rather a folder on my hard drive.
Part of the problem is that I havenât figured out how to publish only updates to my site from RW8. Even if I only wanted to add one small file to my site, RW tries to publish the whole site, even when I select âPublishâ instead of âRe-publish All Files.â The tech advisor at bluehost worked with me several hours on the phone to figure out the problem and all she could determine is that it was timing out trying to publish the whole thing.
I almost didnât breathe while reading this whole thread, itâs like a suspense movie, where Timothy is the hero struggling against insurmountable odds⌠then comes the post where he says he GOT IT, he uploaded index.html, you could hear the relief⌠I finally took a breath. In contrast to his experience, I published to my server/host without a hitch whatsoever⌠everything went perfectly wellâŚand the site works perfectly well, I would recommend RW to anybody⌠itâs quite awesome, with plenty of stacks added that is⌠Iâm using Foundry and find it pretty well fleshed out⌠I so FEEL for Timothy, I wish upon him good luck, and a good FTP program so he can upload manually⌠so much easier than a Cpanel type of interface⌠my FTP software âFetchâ shows you whatâs on your server much like a Finder folder would⌠you can just drag and drop, easily delete things, easily manage whatâs on your website on your server⌠one thing I want to tell Timothy is that look at those Green Dots next to your pages in RW, those mean âhas been changedâ⌠and it will try to publish anything with a dot, I noticed in one of your pictures that all had green dots, that means all will republish when you hit publish⌠if youâre publishing to a local folder it shouldnât take much time to republish all and it doesnât hurt anything⌠then from there drag the appropriate files using FTP software to your site⌠I wish you the best of luck, and love your topic of teaching.
Thank you very much! I havenât figured out in RW8 how to deselect the green dots.
Have I expressed how much I absolutely hate having to do software upgrades? I have tons of papers to grade today and now I discover that in upgrading to the new Mac operating system, which I was forced to do in order to upgrade to Rapidweaver 8, that I lost all my Adobe products that I previously paid for. Now I have to waste more time figuring out how to get all that back in order to do the job I used to be able to do with the old software.
Upgrading especially OSâs is a pain.
You must have been running Mac OS 10.11 or earlier? RapidWeaver 8 only requires Mac OS X 10.12 which is three years old.
Then I was misled into thinking I needed to upgrade to Catalina. I just hate it.
Yeah,
Someone gave it to you backwards I think. You might need RW8 to use Catalina, but definitely donât need Catalina for RW8.
not even 8.4?
Iâm running 8.4 on Mojave(10.14) just fine. The RealMac Page states 10.12. Catalina is 10.15.x.
As @teefers says ⌠there is absolutely NO need to use OS 10.15 wit RW 8.4. I too have not upgraded: and Iâm glad I havenât. I donât know who/how you got the impression you needed 10.15. But you were misled or misinformed.
