Yes, I will update to version 7
Nope. Couldnāt afford over $80 Australian for a program I use sparingly. After owning it for a good while and experiencing the RW5 - RW6 upgrade I have started playing with it only recently. It seems that, in order to get the most from it, Iād have to spend a fair bit on further resources. I own Stacks 3 but Iām looking at Foundation and perhaps RapidCart 4 Pro for a project. It all adds up.
As long as the other stuff remains compatible Iāll stick with that - unless a bundle/bargain comes along that makes it ridiculous not to.
Cheers, Grant
Upgrade - like when?
I only JUST upgraded my mostly unused rev 5 to rev 6 this AM! Less than 6 hrs ago.
Not realizing there is a brand new version about to be released.
Everything is ala carte & frankly, in some regards iWeb was more useful to me unless there are features inside of the Rapidweaver core completely obscure to me. It appears that I need to purchase more plug-in modules over & above the app cost to really rev its engine.
If Iām dropping more $ - it probably wonāt be Rapidweaver as my first choice ontop of this.
It appeared to be an easier way to get a site back up & running without resorting to WordPress or Dreamweaver, but Iām basically rebuying Dreamweaver in the modules.
Iām also a little annoyed that I need to purchase tutorial access to learn more advanced uses for the product I bought! Especially since I bought the upgrade with one cc & that card is apparently not valid for use to buy said access!

I really did not expect to be livid less than half a day after jumping in. What I am reading implies I shouldhave tried to make version 5 work well before āupgradingā to 6.
This forum seems quirky - tought to edit when its falls off the scroll page.
The above comment wasnāt intended to be an independent post.
It was an additional edit to explain further & clarify, but the forum is too buggy to be very usable!
Which does not leave a "warm & fuzzyā feeling in general.
I really did not expect to be livid less than half a day after jumping in to upgrade to a version that everyone else seems to feel was a serious downgrade.

I have been usiing RapidWeaver since version 3 and understand your concerns. First off, I am not a programmer, I look at javascript and I get a headache. CSS is very complecated as well. I understand enough to do miner customizations to a website. That being sad RapidWeaver has become a very powerful website authoring tool for people like myselft. I have used Dreamweaver a long time ago but RapidWeaver just clicked with me. I am visual, I like to see how things look and the developers that supply the plugins and stack elements take the guess work out the coding for me. I search for what I want and I usually will find it on this forum or tha addons section for Realmacs site. There are paid tutorials on this site and others, but there is a ton of other free advice and help here and other sites such as Joe Workman;s Weaverspace (weavers.space). With the latest version of RapidWever just around the corner it has just gotten so much better. If you have been on v5 this version will blow you away. Also, with some of the no theme frameworks that are being deployed such as Foundation, UI Kit and Bootstrap, RapidWeaver has truely hit its stride. Virtually any type of website design you can dream of can be built. I truely bespoke site can be built, themes are not as important to the program as they once were.
The name of the program says it all, you can build a site very rapidly and deploy it. Developers need to make money as well as the Realmac team. So paying for great software that allows this is no brainer. For what they charge for it I think its a bargain in my opion.
Thanks for the encouragement.
As I mentioned above, I was trying to tweak my comments in the āupgrade to 7ā thread,
but somehow thatās not where this wound up - creating a new thread instead. Not my intent.
I never actually added the extra content because this forum is acting weirdly. (Not 100% the forum. At some point I had something slide onto a 2nd [bluetooth] blueboard that had paired with my monitor & caused a few of the conniptions! That part turned out to be funny: I didnāt realize what had happened until I rebooted).
Obviously I upgraded thinking there would be a positive outcome, not a reason to grumble.
Frankly though, as I am not a full time web developer by any stretch, I think some of the functionality is geared too much toward that developer arena given the sales pitches I have seen over the years.
I picked up 5.x a few years ago, but built a rudimentary, though fairly decent looking website some time ago electing to use iWeb to accomplish it visually & quickly. That had its shortcomings, but iWeb was actually a far better application that the credit given it. It was highly visual, if sometimes limited.
Certainly, I would have expected more of the type of drag & drop placement one gets in Sandovox or iWeb to be part of the package vs being a module sales platform, especially for a visual thinking person. There are essential elements which belong in the base package.
That said, modularizing is nice, but I already own Dreamweaver, though yes that too can give headaches & I am out of practice with it. I also have seen Joe Workmanās modules (uh, āplug-insā) & they look quite capable. If I buy something, its a toss-up between his foundation set, or the styles set. In effect, I nearly have to double the cost of the app to do it the way I wanted.
To me, this seems a bigger nagging point than people who are two OS revs behind the current one.
@dan : - Can we have the complete list of features what will be available in RW7 !! ?
Thanks,
Rajat
I have to say - I really really like RW. Frankly its amazing what you can create with it. The upgrade price for me is trivial given the use I make with it - I have spent much much more on lots of plugins and stacks and I donāt resent any of that either. I do hear that people moan over paying more for functionality etc. But I really like the way that RWS sort of enables a market for e.g stacks and we then get the talented designers we have to compete and produce some excellent facilities we can generally buy for a $10 or so. Given what you can do with it - this product is excellent value. It may sound odd but I am glad to pay the upgrade price as I know it all helps keep new facilities coming and enabling us to create more ambitious and better sites.
I do however understand those posters who feel they were perhaps bitten by the issues that many of us had with the upgrade to RW6. That aside I think RW offers a really powerful web creation framework with a comprehensive eco-system of suppliers providing further capability. I will thus certainly be upgrading - though perhaps like some posting before me - I will wait a few weeks to see if there are any major problems.
Hope its a solid release guys
George

Iād love this also, to be honest. As good as the podcasts are, Iām sure, I donāt really have time to go through various back-issues of them trying to find the nuggets. Feeling a bit left out of the discussion.
Weāll be posting the full list of features when 7.0 goes live later this month
I will absolutely be upgrading!!
It certainly is worth any hassles (which I happily did not have) to go from 5 to 6. There is no need to learn RW all over again, I can assure you. Took me the better part of an hour to find my way in 6 and, rest assured, Iām anything but a proā¦
6 had its ramp up pains but is now a wonderfully stable product. The overhaul from 5 was well overdue, imho.
Donāt feel discouraged. Youāll be well awarded. Particularly with Stacks 3, youāll be twice as fast getting things on the road than before! The perfect team, I think.
Thanks esc. I decided to abandon RW and had someone do my website in WordPress instead. Kudos to those of you who stuck out and got through the transition. For me RW was asking too much.
Iāve upgraded and it was a painless experience. The only slight problem I had was that it wouldnāt let me install Font Pro, which it thought it already had. In the end, I installed it manually. Very nice!
I know your pain as Iām also in Australia and just paid $AUD85 for the upgrade.
Iām also using it sparingly at the moment but planning on doing a lot more web development this year.
Have been beta testing RW7 and it has proven to be the most stable release yet from Realmac even with the betas.
Iām also a Foundation user and the whole RW7, Stacks 3, Foundation (and a number of other stacks) make this a fantastic web development tool.
All the best.
RW: Iām getting to like it.
Despite being a little upset that I had to buy several modules (plug-ins) to work the way I preferred.
Also, the guidelines used by developers in several of the plug-ins are dissimilar.
Whether I buy the upgrade depends upon whether I have to fork over another $60 after spending $40 to get the latest version of 6, all of 1-2 weeks ago. This way, I am paying a premium to go to 7.
If you bought it after April 24th your upgrade is freeā¦

The question remains whether its a full price copy bought within the month to qualify, or if upgrading to 6 was enough. Havenāt seen an email as described.
Must say I am ecstatic in that I do have a free upgrade to version 7.
This was a pleasant surprise. Wasnāt going to believe it until I saw it.
Only just got to version 6 a week ago - not realizing 7 was on the horizon, despite never really having done more than glance at version 5 after I bought that!
My one gripe was that I didnāt realize how much it might cost me in add-ons, to work efficiently, or have to code bits & pieces if I didnāt. The interface wasnāt quite as similar to other Mac applications as I might have liked, but its really quite good.
As for someone throwing in the towel & paying someone to set up oneās webpage using Wordpress⦠as was mentioned above, I have to wonder what that convenience cost them. Also, whether they can maintain the site themselves, or will forever require a tech person to maintain it. Ultimately, they could have had someone do the same using Wordpress.
So - yes, I am upgrading to 7.
Reports on how I like version 7 pending.
