Question: Will you be upgrading to RW 7?

Wanted to update to RW6 shortly, but wondering if it is better to wait till RW7. Waited with RW6 because of all the issues that were reported and being a non-ict guru very hesitant to update to something which sounded not stable enough at that time.

It seems a bit weird to update to RW6 and then after maybe 2 weeks pay for another update to RW7. Would it be possible to update from RW5 (latest build) to RW7 ?

@orion94nl

Should be, the process will likely be similar to upgrading to version 6

  1. Make sure you are using RapidWeaver 4.5.1

  2. If using Yourhead Stacks, make sure you’re using Version 2.7.1

  3. Update all your plugins (Stacks, Themes, Page Types)
 (Restart)

  4. Open EACH project you want to bring into RW7 with RW 5.4.1 AND SAVE it

  5. (Possible step) - Download & Install Demo of RW6 and Stacks 3

  6. (Possible Step) - Use RapidWeaver 6 -> Copy Addons from RapidWeaver 5
 (Restart RW)

6a. (Possible step) - Update all your plugins (Stacks, Themes, Page Types)
 (Restart RW)

6b. CAUTION - NOT all plugins you have installed in RW5 are available for RW6 so be sure to check the developers website to make sure there is a RapidWeaver 6 version available and download if the import from RW5 causes any issues with a particular Plugin. Same goes for Stacks. Some stacks only work in Stacks 2.x and Stacks 3 is required for RW6+ (Thanks @Zeebe).

  1. (Possible step) - Open each project file you want to convert and save each using RW6 to change the file format

  2. Follow guide for RW7 Update

This is conjecture at the moment as the official release notes and software has not been released yet. BUT, for sure, update your RapidWeaver 5 to 5.4.1 and Stacks to 2.7.1 and run your projects through them, updating any stacks and plugins you have installed
this will almost inevitably save time for upgrading to RW7

I think you mean RapidWeaver 6 version, not Stacks 3 version
 and particular plugin, not stack

RW6 Demo should only support 3 pages per project, shouldn’t it? Correct me if I am wrong.

Isn’t it possible to use RW5.4.1 and say “export project as RW6 project”. Long time ago that I used RW5 :sunglasses:

And then open the RW6 project directly in RW7.

That’s why I said Possible step
I could not find save as
 or export as
a RW 6 project in RW 5.4.1, all I know is you HAVE to save your project in RW 5.4.1 for it to open in RW6 with the least amount of issues.

Yes, demo is only 3 pages, so not 100% on that part
an assumption based off older updates, hence the Possible Step part

Thanks for bringing this up though as I am not that familiar with RW 5.4.1.

Brad

Oh yes, exactly
 My fault.

No worries, I am sure that when the software update is released that there will be clear instructions on how to do the migration from RW 5.4.1 and RW 6.x.

I do honestly appreciate the feedback and suggestions/questions

ps - Having since patiently listened to most of the podcast, most of the features sound beyond my understanding of the technicalities but one that stuck out is the SEO check. For my workflow, I usually add the keywords, metadata, page name descriptions, etc as part of the finishing touches before or after publishing the site. Any feature that can check that I’ve not overlooked anything would be welcome.

We’re not supposed to discuss the beta publicly but I will say that this feature is very well done

If you’re concerned about SEO, then this might be worth a look while you’re waiting. https://www.chillidogsoftware.com/chillidog-software-rapidweaver-stacks/seo-rx/

Thank you, I already had a look at CD’s SEO but decided against. I’m not concerned about SEO: my main site is within the top 3 searches and I expect my new sites to go straight into the top ten as well.

Yup, you can upgrade from RW5 to RW7, we’ll having pricing available at launch (expect it to be around $59 USD).

As long as you’re using the latest build of RapidWeaver 5 (5.4.1), then those projects will open in RW7 (providing all your plugins are compatible and available).

Hope that helps.

Thanks,
Dan

First thing on my agenda.

I will be holding off on the update. $59 is a lot of money for a program I use rarely. Last update I purchased immediately
not this time. If the update was $39 I would purchase it on release. The extra $20 is what will make me wait.

59$ is ÂŁ40 87 currently.

Eventually yes. For a non-coder like me, RapidWeaver is an indispensable tool to build web sites.
Although I had few (minor) troubles with version 6, I’ll probably wait until version 7.1 or until curiosity becomes unbearable

Absolutely. Yes, I am anxiously awaiting the new version.

I have been listening to the podcast and am very excited. BUT, I experienced a ton of problems with the RW6 update that cost me hours and hours of lost productivity. So, I will sit back and wait this time around.

I’m still a fan, just a cautious one.
