RapidWeaver Fails

I’m a long time user of RapidWeaver. I left the forum for a while. I’m trying to create a new website and have run into some terrible problems. Last week all my sites worked just fine in my copy of.RapidWeaver. But starting yesterday. I get an error message that the “Stacks” plug-in is missing. Then, when I try to reload the plug-in, I get a message that the internal Mac hard drive is read-only. This is got to be a problem within RapidWeaver because I have no problems with anything else on this computer. I’ve tried everything in my power to fix it and totally at a loss. Any help will be appreciated.

Hi @rfha,

First things first.

Could you check the following?

  1. Open you Mac’s system settings by clicking on  in the top left corner of your screen, then click on System Settings

  2. In System Settings, click on Privacy & Security

  3. In the Privacy & Security preference pane, click on Full Disk Access

  4. Scroll down until you see RapidWeaver (the list is in alphabetical order) and make sure the switch is set to on (slide it to the right if not)

MacOS will ask you for your administrator password, fingerprint or urine sample*. The error that the hard drive can not be written to, should now be gone.

Now let’s look at your Stacks problem.

  1. Start RapidWeaver

  2. Click on the RapidWeaver menu item and then on Reveal Addons Folder

  3. In the Finder window that appears, check if there’s a file called Stacks.rapidweaverplugin and a folder called Stacks

4a. If the file and folder in Step 3 are missing, then Stacks isn’t installed (properly). Redownload Stacks from this website (Stacks v5, Yourhead Software) and reinstall it

4b. If the file and folder in Step 3 are present, then continue with Step 5

  1. In RapidWeaver, click the RapidWeaver menu item and then Settings

  2. In the window that appears, click the Addons tab/button

  3. Click on the > in front of Yourhead Software to expand the entry

  4. Make sure the checkbox after Stacks is checked. If not, check it. Also make note of the version number listed - in my example screenshot below, the version is 5.3.0

  5. Close the Settings window and quit, then relaunch RapidWeaver. The error should now be gone.

If the error isn’t gone, check back in with us here. Also make sure you tell us the version number of Stacks as listed in that window.

Cheers,
Erwin

*Just kidding, it will not ask for a urine sample - but you will need to enter your administrator password or fingerprint.

Hi Erwin, thanks so much for your very detailed help.

All my system settings are fine and give full permission to RapidWeaver. From there, unfortunately, things go south in a big way, so much so that it makes absolutely no sense to me. I get multiple errors, and nothing seems to be in the right place, or work. This is really weird because everything worked just fine last week..

If you are willing, I can allow you, or Dan C., to access my computer. Otheerwise, I’m screwed

Richard Hill

Hi @rfha,

If a lot of errors pop up, you could book a one-on-one call with @dang for support. This Dan (there are two Dans) works for Realmac and does support for RapidWeaver. I’m not an employee of Realmac (I’m a RapidWeaver user, like you, but I just hang out an unhealthy amount of time on this forum).

Alternatively, you could list the errors (preferably with screenshot) here, and I (and others) can have a look.

Cheers,
Erwin

Hi Erwin,

I’m so frustrated at this point, I think I show should just go ahead and purchase Elements and start over again. Do you think I should completely remove Rapidweaver from my computer before downloading Elements?

Hi @rfha,

Elements is a standalone product and works independently from RapidWeaver - in other words, it doesn’t matter if you uninstall RW if you’re planning to use Elements.

But do keep in mind that Elements can’t import your RapidWeaver sites or project files. You can’t use Elements to maintain your older RapidWeaver sites unless you rebuild those sites using Elements.

My advice is to book support time with Dan and see if you can get RapidWeaver to work again.

Cheers,
Erwin

Thanks!
