Hello fellow Weavers,
A potentially debilitating issue has suddenly come up concerning data entered into the page sidebars of my RapidWeaver project that is disappearing, and I need to urgently ask for your guidance and advice:
• Using RapidWeaver Classic v9.3.4 (21106)
• Stacks v5.3.0 (6353)
• Themeflood’s “Media” theme v9.1
Issue:
Following the latest updates of RapidWeaver to v.9.3.4 and Stacks to v5.3.0 recently, I found that text I had entered into several of my project pages had suddenly disappeared, leaving the sidebar with a title but no body text (see attached screenshot).
Whenever I create a new archives page, I usually duplicate an existing page and then update it with new text. I’ve been doing it this way for years with RW and have never, ever had a problem with disappearing text. That all changed just recently: After duplicating some pages as usual, I found that the sidebar text in dozens of other unrelated pages went blank.
All the data in the main editing area and in other editing panes of pages seem to be unaffected — it is only the sidebar pane that is showing a loss of data.
This seems to occurs only on main pages where I have just duplicated the pages and edited them. And it occurs on the majority of the pages in my project — though not all of them. I cannot discern a pattern regarding the why most pages lose the sidebar text while a few other pages are not affected.
At that point, having lost a page’s sidebar text, I am able to go back and copy and paste all the missing sidebar text from my already published website. It takes hours or even days to get all the text back just right in the dozens of pages with sidebars. But once I have re-entered all the pages with the sidebar problem, the text stays in place and I can re-publish it again with no problem.
Until, that is, I create a new page by duplicating an old one, and then the sidebar problem starts all over again. At this point, as I write this, I have dozens of pages that still have blank sidebars, and it will take another day or two to get it all right back again. Meanwhile, my publishing schedule is now shot to hell and there is no way to get my website republished on time.
What I Have Tried:
I’ve tried going back to the latest RW backup I’ve made (I back up my project regularly) and reopen the project, but no success. The sidebars in question are still empty.
In desperation, I tried going back through Time Machine on Mac (OS v15.2) and recovering an earlier saved version of my RW project, but no success. The blank sidebars still show up.
I’ve looked through these forum archives and did find a lot of blank sidebar issues coming up with RW some years ago, but nothing really recently — and not with the exact problem I am now suddenly facing.
Questions:
• Has anyone else come across this same issue with losing sidebar data recently? If so, how did you deal with this?
• What do you suppose is the cause of this blank sidebar issue? Would duplicating a page actually cause this, as it seems to be?
• Why would this be coming up so suddenly, when I have never had this problem with sidebars before with RapidWeaver?
• How can I resolve this crisis as soon as possible?
• And would this be a problem caused by volume? I do have a lot of pages on my project — a couple of hundred pages — and I wonder if this is affecting RW and overloading it somehow.
Thanks in advance for taking the time to read this posting and sharing your guidance and advice. It’s much appreciated.
Brian
