According to the release notes, RW 8.7 is compatible with MacOS 10.12.

To use Foundry you need Stacks 4 or above. Below are the requirements for Stacks 4
Stacks 4 requires RapidWeaver 7 (or newer) and macOS 10.11 (or newer).
RapidWeaver 8 and macOS 10.13 or newer recommended
And @Isaiah mentioned somewhere not long ago about the future compatibility of the Stacks plugin, which I can’t locate at the moment.
Things might work now on 10.12, but the future will more than likely change that.
I use RW8.7 on a 500GB SSD so no issues there.
I think this is what you are talking about, it’s RW7 support in the future.
