If anyone might be able to help with some or all of these questions I’d be so grateful : )
How do I find out what version of Stacks and RWC I currently have?
How do I update stacks and software when necessary? When I go to “Check for Updates” I get the following error message - RW can’t be updated if it’s running from the location it was downloaded to.
Is there a cost involved with each update of Stacks and RW?
I’d like to experiment with some changes to my current site but want to keep the current site safe and untouched. Is it possible to duplicate my current site to do this? If so how?
When RW Elements came out I remember there was a lot os concern with the stability of RWC. At this point, are RWC and stacks 100% reliable? Can I safely and confidently plan on retaining and utilizing this site it for years to come?
When I open my project I receive an error message that I"m not sure how to deal with? It says the following:
RapidWeaver has detected missing resources in this project
Please review the files below. You may scan a folder to locate them, relink them or remove them if they are no longer required.

Under ‘Rapidweaver Classic’ at the top of your screen click on ‘About Rapidweaver’ and it will tell you. For Stacks you will have to find where you saved it first and then you should be able to do the same.
Under the same RW menu item as before you can click on ‘Preferences’ and select ‘Updates’ and get it to check when opening RW. I get asked to update Stacks when I open RW. I just ignore it as I don’t want to update with everything working.
I would open the project file and then save it under a new name and use that for playing around with, leaving your published file as it is.
I run RWC and Stacks and have had no stability issues whatsoever. I plan on retaining and utilising the same until either it stops working or I feel the need to upgrade to something new, like Elements.
Looks like you have moved, deleted or somehow edited the jpg file mentioned. You need to find it and link it back to the project file.
It’s up to you. Some will say it is always best to have the latest version of software. The link above tells you what has been added since your 9.2.0. Nothing major but some bug fixes depending on what OS you are using.
Stacks is up to 5.3.0 so you could be a bit behind there so perhaps worth looking here to see what has been added - Stacks 5 Plug-In
Although I have been using RW since almost the beginning I only got Stacks this year, I’m a bit of a Luddite really. I am on 5.1.2 so see no need for me to upgrade at the moment. I like the current stability I have. If it ain’t broke etc.
So I downloaded the updates/versions/changes of RWC in the link that you kindly sent. They came up as Zip files and I clicked on them.
I also decided to update to Stacks 5 and paid the $50.
So now I see all these never versions on RW and Stacks in my applications.
But when I reopen RWC and look at “About Rapidweaver” to confirm the new versions are at play, it still shows that I am using RW 9.2.0. I can only presume that the Stacks that is working is Stacks 3 and not Stacks 5.
Am I doing something wrong or missing a step?
Lastly, I am unquestionably a bigger and better Luddite than you LOL : )
So I restarted the program and even restarted my computer. No change really.
RWC version still says 9.2.0 when I got to About Rapidweaver.
Stacks is still offering the pop-up window asking me to update the software.
When I went to a Stacks page it is showing Stacks 4 (thought I bought the update of both Stacks 4 & 5 in the same purchase). I may have has Stacks 4 and didn’t know it.
Any further suggestions as to how to get the latest RWC updates to engage…?
And last Question - When and how will I know of future updates for RWC?
Do you have more than one version on your computer? When you try to add stacks, is it going to your latest RW version or an earlier one. I had the same happen, as I have both RW 9.2.3 and 9.3.4 and Stacks was uploaded to 9.3.4 and I was looking at 9.3.2. Just my thoughts on this, not fully understanding how all of this works.
Looks like you forgot to move RapidWeaver to your Applications folder. It’s probably still sitting in your Downloads folder.
Make sure you move the app to your Applications folder, otherwise you can’t update it.
Delete any other copies of the app that are outside of your Applications folder.
That shouldn’t be possible, how do you have two versions of RWC installed at the same time? Unless you are running them from different folders, which you shouldn’t do. RapidWeaver needs to be in the Applications folder in order for it to function correctly.
I did as you said and brought the files to my applications. Then closed RW and reopened. There was no change. Still RW 9.2.0 and Stacks 4 (I did already have this - so the issue is getting it to update to 5).
Before I delete anything, would you please confirm. You think I should delete all of the below files?
Below are RWC and Stacks from my applications folder - Does this look correct? Interestingly I uploaded these files yesterday but the dates on the files say otherwise.
That Stacks download, you don’t move it to your Applications folder. All you have to do is double-click on it to launch the auto-installer, and it will auto-install in RapidWeaver. Or you can drag and drop it over your RapidWeaver Classic icon in your Dock if you have it located there.
