What are you talking about? You don’t have to upgrade.
You said that you are having the same problem, this post is about getting a lost serial number not upgrading to a new version.
Perhaps a screenshot of the message that you get might help.

Sorry I mis understood the post but… Stacks 4 upgrade popup will not let me move forward with my project. I click “not now” and as soon as I edit anything in Stacks the upgrade window pops up and stops me.

Did you install the stacks 4 Trial version?
Stacks 3 shouldn’t be asking for upgrades other than once at each time RW starts up:
Double check that you didn’t install the trial version you should open addons manager and have a look
