A few of our users have reported a weird issue in High Sierra where opening RapidWeaver would result in an “Open” window that would render RapidWeaver useless and not let you open a project file (or use RapidWeaver at all). Here’s a screen grab of what that window looks like.
We’re 95% sure this is a result of using a Mac utility tool (CleanMyMac, MacKeeper, etc). These apps tend to delete important preference and cache files RapidWeaver uses for projects, etc.
The simple fix is to delete your existing RapidWeaver preference / file that saved the state of the RapidWeaver window. The more drastic fix is to delete your entire preferences folder which removes any registrations and serials. Be sure to back these up and have them handy as you’ll need to re-enter these if Fix #2 is needed.
Fix #1 - delete only the saved application statefolder:
- Quit RapidWeaver (you might have to Force Quit)
- Go to your root hard drive, go to Users > Your user
- In the menu bar, select Go > Go To Folder and paste the following:
Library/Containers/com.realmacsoftware.rapidweaver/Data/Library - Delete the “Saved Application State” folder, and close the window
- Open RapidWeaver again
If the issue persists, proceed to Fix #2
Fix #2 - delete all existing RapidWeaver preferences (including serials, registrations, etc)
- Quit RapidWeaver (you might have to Force Quit)
- Go to your root hard drive, go to Users > Your user
- In the menu bar, select Go > Go To Folder and paste the following:
Library/Containers/ - Search for “RapidWeaver” and delete the following folders
com.realmacsoftware.rapidweaver and RapidWeaver 7 - Delete your existing copy of RapidWeaver, and download a fresh copy into /Applications
- Open RapidWeaver again
